one of my co-worker's betta seems to be dying...it's turning a silvery color, and floats around in the take with his mouth facing up. I've changed the water for her, and tried to get him to eat, but he won't. Any suggestions on how i can help him?

What are the specifics? Water temperature, how much do you feed it, how often do you change the water? I don't know much about fish illnesses outside of fin rot, ich, and swim bladder, but clean water with a little aquarium salt is usually a good route to take if you aren't quite sure what is wrong. Until you figure out what it is, my advice would be to keep the water very clean and if you have access to aquarium salt add whatever it says on the container (I keep forgetting the correct amount). Fish out (no pun intended) any uneaten food so it doesn't dirty the water.

Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Doesn't sound good Jell...you can add 1/2 to 1 teasp. of aquarium salt to his water. I would start with the 1/2 then gradually increase, but I don't think that guys much longer for this world from what you discribed....but you never know, so no harm trying. Temps in the high 70's low 80's could help too...to just make him more comfortable if nothing else.

Hope he comes round Jell but if he doesn't it helps to go through the care process before he got sick, so that you can try to find out what happened to him. This is sometimes how we learn the do's and don'ts of betta care unfortunately. Of course it could be something that has nothing to do with his care, but it's good to know that too.

All the best !

Unfortunately Sharkbait didn't make it through the night...I haven't really taken care of him except for yesterday because my co worker was out, and he's her fish. I have two that I bought at the same time, and they are doing great...

we're gonna fry sharkbait up for lunch today, so it's all good.

Lol Jell....you know, if you have any plants in the office I bet they wouldn't mind a little bit of protein in their diet...I usually plant my casualties in the box planter on the front step. Have quite a few in there actually...lol..have to see how the flowers come out this spring !
