I'm a firm believer that the best nutrients come from natural food, but I also realize that it would be impossible to get all nutrients your body needs in any diet you could eat. I take a woman's daily multivitamin, plus extra vitamin E in gel capsules. I realize that calcium is really important but I always found it really hard to take the horse pills. My darling boyfriend found me caramel chews that have calcium, D and K in them. I actually get all my calcium now, it's a treat
What vitamins are you taking, and how do you take them?

Hi,
I take a great multi-vitamin that contains extra folic acid and minerals, also a time released calcium/magnesium/and vitamin D combo. I take a antioxidant pill and a whole lot of fish pills (to help lower my triglycerides)I also take a few herbal supplements, but they are not vitamins.

Jeeeze... I really should check into a daily vitamine.
I've always been horrible at taking pills..can't swallow them right half the time and they end up getting stuck in my throat and gagging me..so I shy away from them!
Ive always been a big eater though... like a bottomless pit at times and need to take something to control my binges..so I ~try~ to remember to take my metabolife... although recently I've been hearing some very negative things about it.. like it makes you act as if you're pms'ing and gives you major mood swings... I hadn't noticed but then again..when do we ever notice that sort of thing :P

Charise - I have the same problem. Usually it's the calcium that makes a pill big - but calcium is REALLY critical for health (especially in women).
If you get a nice, small main multi-vitamin, they sell a chewable calcium square that tastes like chocolate or caramel. I highly recommend those if you have trouble. They also do sell chewable multi-vitamins that at least get the nutrition into you even if they aren't as great as the non-chewables.
You have to balance for yourself the vitamin intake. You want to get as good quality vitamins as you can afford - but if you aren't going to eat them because of swallowing issues, you should at least get something you WILL take.
As far as bottomless pit, there are many reasons that we train ourselves to eat past fullness, and it's hard but possible to untrain ourselves. I do have many suggestions on the low carb site. Some of them quickly are:
* Eat at the table. If you are paying attention to what you eat (vs mindlessly eating while watching TV) you are far more likely to know you are full.
* Take SMALL portions and go back for seconds / thirds. People are trained from childhood to finish their plates even if they're full. Make sure your plate has only a small amount on it each time to give yourself that chance to stop.
* Drink LOTS of liquids. That not only helps you to be full but also helps you properly metabolize what you eat
* Play slow music. Studies show that having fast music play gets you to eat more quickly. Slow music will help you eat slowly and realize you're full.
Also, have small healthy snacks all day long. That way you are never starving to the point of food-shovelling at mealtimes.

Charise - make sure you drink a lot of water, that helps to fill you up. Also, try to have a salad before lunch and dinner, because that fills you up with healthy veggies. Finally, don't let yourself get to starving. Once you're starving it's hard to eat in moderation. Instead, eat snacks along the way if you start to get hungry. Healthy snacks of course
