Hello again! Your advise on my new fresh water aquarium has work great! It's been 1 month (about) and I needed to know when it would be a good time to change or clean my filter media. I have a Whisper 60 Power Filter and it has 2 charcoal filter and 2 black mesh looking things. what sould I do?? Thank's for all your efforts!

Hi Hollie!
I'm not familiar with that kind of filter... but the rule of thumb I use is every four weeks. Main thing to remember... Don't change them all at the same time. My filter has a foam and a carbon. The first weekend of the month I change the carbon, and the third weekend of the month I change the foam. It makes sure that your not stripping your filter of the good bacteria

Check the boxes too - some filters might have different suggestions for how often to change media.

Have fun!

My Tanks:

Thank you for your suggestion!
I've marked on my calendar everthing I do. This should keep me in line! (Haha) I had another post today regarding a ph issue in my 1 gal beta tank that I can't seem to level out. If you could view-I'd appreciate it.
I'm taking samples of both tanks + tap water to the store tomorrow or monday. All my test are within great ranges except the ph for the beta. I have to decrease every other day for 8 to 7 & it's driving me crazy! (Haha) I fear of frying the poor thing becase the previous beta didn't fair too well and seemed ph burned. I wasn't able to save him.

Hollie, how high is your PH ? Usually it's a good idea not to mess with it and just let the fish adjust to the ph that you have.

If you acclimate them very slowly to your water they should do fine. When they PH is going up and down all the time is when you will run into trouble with them.
