Hello everyone. I am new to the forums here! I am so glad I found this site. I am trying to teach myself to crochet from books and am using all the resources I can find. Does anyone have any good ideas for some beginner projects? I made a bookmark and somewhat succeeded at a doilie...Any ideas or good tips will be appreciated. Thank you in advance! Welcome to the site flowerchic. When I started crocheting, I did an afgan. The pattern was consistant so I didn't have to keep looking at the book and just memorized the stitch progression from repetition. Grannysquares are fun to start with too and you can sew them together to make hats and afghans. I started my daughter off with scarfs because they are in fashion and Lion Brand has a lot of good patterns on their web site. I'm sure a lot more ideas will be posted but I encourage you to continue with crochet because it is a real tension tamer and has always helped me relax

I made a ?? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> at age 9 , that was 56 years ago.

To see some stitches with a Video go to >
www.stitchguide.com and choose Crochet.

Just ask what pattern you are looking for and we will try to find it for you.

A Granny Square is a good start. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Make some Scarves, Table Covers, Afghans,Slippers ,hats , Flowers or just about anything with granny Squares !

Thank you all. I did make a potholder. checkerboard with two colors... It actually turned out square! I think I am a little tense when it comes to the gauge though...Stitching a little to tight..It took a little bit to figure out what to do with the color I wasn't working with but after a few failed attempts it came out okay.. Thank you again and I am sure I will have more questions soon..Have a great evening.

kirsten, if your gauge is to tight, try going to a bigger hook, the next one up or one that works for you. merwyn <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
