I have a question for everyone. In your opinion, what is the best shampoo/conditioner on the market and why? Thanks!

I usually use White Rain, Suave, or Alberto V05. Why? Because they are cheap! [imageBellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. If you don't know how to do UBB code just post here for help - we will help out!

My opinion is there is no such thing.
The only thing that matters is which one works for Your hair. Hair is as unique as DNA or fingerprints so there's no such thing as one size fits all.

If you try something and like it, then it might be best for you. Just beware that if it stops working it might not be that it's a bad product. It might be something else or it might have built up. Just clarify your hair with either a shampoo meant for clarifying or try a mixture of water and vinegar.
Start out by using a tiny bit of vinegar with lots of water. Like a few spoonfuls in a few cups of water.

I've done 3 vinegar rinses.
The first time I used 1/4 cup white vinegar and the rest of the quart jug (3 3/4 cups) was water.

The next time I took an empty V05 bottle and I put about an inch of apple cider vinegar in the bottle and filled the rest with water. This also helped because I was able to apply it where I wanted it rather than just dumping it on my head.
It's up to you which vinegar you use. Some like apple cider more for the smell reasons.

Try not to do that too often. 2 times per month is a good amount. If you use a lot of styling products you might need more.

One other clarifier is Baking Soda. Be careful with this. Using too much of this or too often can make your hair really dry.
If you have heavy build up then mix up to a spoonful of baking soda into the shampoo glob you put in your palm. You might want to try half a spoonful first.

I like to think of hair as a chalk board.
Every time you wash it's like you're using the eraser.
When you clarify it's like using the wet sponge to really wash the board and thus you now have a clean slate.

A lot of products have things like silicone in them and the reason is because hair is porous. The longer your hair is the older it is and longer the amount of time it's been exposed to elements.
Think of hair as a wooden deck. You apply a product such as water seal (kinda like a product with silicones) to protect the wood and make it look better. But after a while you might need to remove the old water seal (clarify) and then start applying new coats.

Remember, nature didn't intend for hair to look good for magazine ads. We're so used to seeing hair with lots of product on it to make it look shiny or smooth. Those are fillers and enhancers like silicone. Even some salon products have them. They are fine to use, just once in awhile it's good to return your hair to natural, clean slate, and then start the process over.

I'm not an expert and I will never claim to be but that's how I see it.
Use what works for you <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I hope that helps.

I tend to agree with PurpleBubba that what works for me might not work for you, and spending exorbitant amounts of money on high end shampoos just doesn't make sense (to me). My personal preference is Dove Shampoo (and I've tried them all!). I love the scent and the way it makes my hair feel. I buy it at Sam's Club in an extra large convenient pump bottle.

In my humble opinion, what's more important is what you put on your hair after you wash it. I can tell when my hair needs to be conditioned, and I either use the one that comes with my hair color, or a good leave-in conditioner (such as Infusium 23). Also, try to avoid sprays and products which contain alcohol.

Speaking of conditioners - my all-time favorite is Nexus Humectress - I put a little blob between my palms, then take my palms through my hair, just after towel blotting.
I use a different shampoo each time to avoid buildup.

I too have heard of using apple cider vinegar. I heard it's especially good for brunettes (which I am). <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

There are so many different ways to pick a good shampoo.. colour, dry, regular use, smell,price.. what i would say about finding a good shampoo is Shampoo and conditioner compliment each other when it comes to doing there job. A lot of people dont use conditioner because they think that their hair doesnt need it or ppl often think their hair is to oily for a conditioner, this is wrong. If you do have oily hair just put a small amount on the ends of your hair obviously this only applies to long hair. it all comes down to you and what product you hair loves the most..

We have awful miserable terrible water! I'll think my hair is in bad condition until I wash it somewhere else! Aussie Mega seems to work best in our water. Dove comes up a close second.

I like the Paul Mitchell line. I use Shampoo #2 (Deep Cleaning) because my hair stays relatively clean for a day! (My scalp is oily, so I have to wash it every day.) I seldom use conditioner because my hair is short, and like I said, oily. No point in washing it just to make it look dirty again! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I love the shampoos/conditioners from the Phyto line. Too bad they're expensive, though. Right now, I'm using Pantene. Seems to work fine, but I may have to switch it up soon.
Best conditioner/mask I've tried is Kerastase Oleo-Relax. The little tub is expensive, but it lasts a long time and I only need to use it once a month or so.
