so what happens if you were searching for food and someone takes it away from you?

Well, I, it's hard to say for sure...but I'd probably save the butterfly. I'm partial to them. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

what if the reason was for you to see the spider catch a butterfly?

Well, I of Solitude, yes, there could be that situation too. However, you asked a question, and I merely gave my intuitive response to it. Which means, that on a different day, my intuition may have given me your "what if" answer instead. That was my whole point, that it depends on what is going on at any given moment, and I base my decisions on each circumstance individually.

The scenario I of Solitude gave was "which one would you save?"

Had he merely said "What would you do if you came upon the scene?", I may have answered differently.

That's my whole point. Because the question concerns life and death, it cannot have just "black and white" pat answers. A butterfly caught in a spiderweb, in real life, isn't in "limbo" where I've been in that situation for all of eternity, and must continually make that decision as to whether to save the butterfly or let the spider eat. I had to have "come upon it" at some point in real life. I guess for me, "trick questions" (and therefore "black and white") don't make sense, lol...

Well, life isn't fair, is it... that's life. Just like the spider and the butterfly have had to learn that concept more than once, I'm sure. I'd either go and fight for the food, or go and search for more, depending on what took my food away from me.

This is probably the least "spiritual" answer here, but then again maybe not. LOL. My first instinct would be to let it be and get away, simply because I am absolutely terrified of spiders.

Now, if that spider were preparing to bite a child, that would definitely be a different situation.

However, in the example given, I would more than likely allow the spider it's meal. That's nature. If I interfere with nature however, I may get bitten instead!
