The new female fish I just bought was a pretty shade of mint green when I brought her home (so I thought). I put her into a divided tank next to the red male, and it seems like she is becoming more colorful. Same with Lovey, who I put next to the new orange male I bought. She seems to have become more colorful, and her fins almost match his coloring.

She could be just very interested in her neighbor. Females will color up rather nicely when they're showing off for the boy next door. ;-)

when i brought amytis home, she was completely colourless (shes a cellophane) but as she got a little older, she started to get a magenta wash in her fins. its not very dark, and its kinda pretty so i dont mind. i am not going to mate her (unless anyone wants to take care of fry for me!) but i think she wants to mate pretty bad! poor nebbie is getting old...
