I have found a couple of books to be amazing help to this day.
Growing Orchids by Brian & Wilma Rittershausen
and
Orchids Care and Cultivation by Gerald Leroy-Terquem & Jean Parisot

These are my orchid bibles. What books have been useful for you?

Happy Growing!

I highly recommend Mary Noble's You Can Grow Orchids and if you grow Cattleyas or Phalaenopsis, I recommend her You Can Grow Cattleya Orchids and You Can Grow Phalaenopsis Orchids. They are inexpensive and filled with easy to understand information.

On a slightly higher level are the Sunset book Orchids and Ortho's All About Orchids.

And, or course, the magazine Orchids produced by the American Orchid Society has wonderful information.

When shopping for a new plant, a really useful book, and sized right to carry along, is _The Taylor Guide to Orchids_.
While it doesn't contain detailed information, it has the essentials in choosing a plant for *my* climate: temperature preference, light preference, easy/hard to grow, and (very critical) whether or not it is fragrant. And there are photos.
Sadly, this little book runs about $28, but can be found at used-book stores, etc.
Regards - Nancy
