After restricting access to Pell Grants last month for over 1.4 million college students, pushing many students out of colleges, Bush today announces he is going to increase the amount of the Pell Grants? Good heavens.

Hey, I did not vote for Bush. I really hope that the pell grant situation is okay for the next four years, it would be nice to get some $ to help me out with college expenses.

I believe the 'disenfranchisement' of Pell Grant recipients is immediate...but he is trying to make it *look good* by now upping the amount, after he has changed eligibility requirements. Gad. It's all a PR stunt...and the media is really hooked into it. Be very, very careful as we are being fed some big time BS by the news.

The news is always feeding us BS. The real challange of the structured school system is trying to get intelligent children to eat all the BS up. But I digress.

The Pell Grants will go up and down as Bush and Congress need support, if they have enough general support, then they do as they please (decrease funding) but if they need the public's support for some other issue, or if they need to get the press off a controversial issue, then they increase funding, again making them look good.

It is astonishing, LunarFrost, because most folks are not aware of this 'flip flopping' on the part of our Administration - in fact, that little news bite more applies to Bush than anyone!

Same as SE Asia - they give $350 million, less per capita than any country in the world, and then tell us to give. That means we gave twice: 1 - through taxes, 2 - privately.

Bastards.

Exactly! I don't know many figures, or concreate facts, but the amounts themselves are outrageous! Really, US has such a messed up system with dividing up taxes and even the social security. Truely, the "baby-boom" generation helped supply the money required to support their parent's SS payments, yet as that generation stops working and begins to need the SS benefits, their children are not making as much per person (relatively speaking) and more money is needed overall.

The government, with each new presidential administration, has to submit a budget estimate. but there has been no complete revision of where those trillions ofdollars are going, ever! The new presidents take the previous year's budget and add a few million to it, and send it in. Then each one for the last several terms, ahs gone over their proposed budget, only increasing the deficit more.

Hey if Bush had invested his 700 Trillion buck deficit into Social Security instead of searching for "WMDs" in Iraq, fruitlessly, the system could have been saved. But no, now we have the most foibled, bungled and ineptly managed national debt of all time...go figure...So now I as a baby boomer, have to lose benefits and pay for his fu*k up...Blech

lol, or as a teen going into the job market, I have to pay for "your" SS. Great fun, just don't get sick or need lots of meds (they're expensive!)
lol, just joking bout that.

but really, the deal with Iraq was stupid to get into in the first place. The whole deal was about Bush 'trying' to be more like his daddy, and the deal with petrolium running low. even though in the same amount of time it would take for him and the economy to get their acts together and get the oil out ad refined enough to use in the US, we could have already invented alternative ways for energy (ie. water, air, heat. . . )

well i'm just bout done ranting about Bush and his stupidity, and I'm just bout ready to get to bed (12:30 am here and I've been up since 6:30am, FUN!)

Indeed. All of us who are young right now will probably be paying out the nose for this war for the rest of our lives.

It seems like everyone is giving college students the short end of the stick. Gov. Granholm here in MI reduced something-or-other about a year or two ago, due to lack of budget....then poured money into elementary schools.

Which is all fine and dandy, but to deprive one person of education for another...well....and I realize that everything in this world is "FOR THE CHYLDRUN" and there's nothing you can do about it but it doesn't do them any good to go to a good elementary school if they can't go to college later, does it? What's more important, being able to know what 3x3 equals or being able to have the knowledge you need for a job?
