I'm 23 and live in the Raleigh, NC area. Currently I'm a college student and I am finding that my interests are quite different from the interests of my peers. I am interested in society and "proper" living while my peers are interested in bars, clubs, etc. My question is how do I find society circles or other people who hold common interests?

HI D. Alexander, I have the same problem. I just moved to a new area and I know no one, so I started volunteering at the Art Center, I work at a very nice book store and I hope that that will start to build a network of people that are more suitable. Good luck

Try joining civic organizations. Raleigh is a large enough city to have quite a few to choose from. I like A. Penn's idea of volunteering at the Art Center or maybe a museum. This may sound silly, but sign up for ballroom dancing. See if the college has a host/hostess committee. If so volunteer.
I concede your point, if things were different they wouldn't be the same. ~Author Unknown

I am not sure what D. Alexander means, but I know a lot of people are staying away from clubs and bars to meet people now. My brother is single and he refuses to go to a bar because he doesn't feel the people he will meet there will be ready for the kind of relationship he is. He has done the bar scene and now he wants someone ready to do other things. So it wouldn't be "proper" for him at this time in his life, but a few yrs ago, it was great.

Raleigh is such an "Old culture" that you should be able to find plenty of things to get involved with.
Book clubs, dinner clubs, etc.
I also noticed that you are still in college. Have you ever thought of joining a sorority? These are not all the party houses that the movies (and some fraternities) are made out to be.
Actually, many sororitites have academic standards, moral standards, and encourage philanthropies as well.
I am an alum of Alpha Delta Pi and our main charity is the Ronald McDonald House, although different chapters often help out with smaller charities in their own communites as well. And I must say that my pledge quarter helped me achieve a 4.0 - because of the study hours I had to log in the library! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> It was a very enjoyable time for me in college, and I made some wonderful friends.
