Mothers at the weekly playgroup run by St Peter's (Cooks River) Anglican Church at St Peters have been told they might offend passing tradesmen or ethnic groups if they continue to breastfeed in the main hall, where their children play.
Whoever told them that is quite ignorant. In many non-westernized countries, it is certainly very immoral to show arms and legs and even faces of women, but guess what? Public breastfeeding is perfectly acceptable.
The ignorance just astounds me. Why on earth do some people think that breastfeeding is akin to doing an x-rated strip tease?! Young children NEED to see women breastfeed their babies so they see what a perfectly natural function it is!
