I find it harder to drink lots of water in the summertime, because I'm on the go more and don't have that glass of water just sitting next to me at my desk. What are your ideas for making sure we get enough water into us?

Hi Lisa,
I always have a bottle that I refill (one of those sports thingys) at my desk instead of a glass! That way I know exactly I'll have to drink 2 bottles full of water during the day. AND if I knock it over it doesn't spill! Which is the best, really!
Plus, it's easier to take a bottle with you when you're getting up from your desk - easier than carrying a glass of water around with you.

I have my ever-present bottles, one that lives adjacent my desk/computer and one that lives in my backpack. I finally got the two so I could stop moving the one from place to place with me.

Then there's the chant I learned last year at Firedance, where you do three or four all night fire cirlces back to back. As you can imagine, hydration is a huge issue.

That's a great idea, I actually have a bunch of water bottles for biking but never use them otherwise. I'll just scrub some out and keep them with me. Thanks!!

if we are losing water due to evaporation in order to cool us, and especially if we have been exercising, we need to replace our salts (sodium and potassium).

when our body loses water, it must also lose salt, so it can stay within certain concentration limits. if we do not take our salts, we will be going number one a lot, if we are drinking water. LOL.

That is VERY true - look for sports drinks that are low in sugar but are well balanced in what your body tends to need during exercising. There are many of them out there!

I just don't like the taste of plain water... that's my problem! I have recently been buying bottles or cans of flavored seltzer (no added natural or artificial sweetners) and keeping them in the fridge at all times. It's pretty cheap--you can get a liter for a dollar or less.

"Smartwater" is also good, because it has electrolytes like the sports drinks... but no sugar! The main drawback is that it's quite a bit more expensive (and harder to find) than seltzer.

There's also flavorings you can buy that are REALLY cheap and that you can add to water. I never thought of water as having a "flavor" - maybe you have "bad" water with lots of minerals or such in it? We have well water and it has no taste at all ...

I have learned if the water sits in a water bottle or glass to long it gets flat. One good way to get the taste back in water is to shake it-up and get the air back into the water and it will taste much better. Use filtered Water (Charcoal)
