I'm about to hit the 10 month mark and am feeling great! It's no longer a "diet", it's just the way we eat on a daily basis. Lots of veggies, lots of fish and poultry. No soda, lots of water. All of our "desserts" are low sugar now. I feel so much better!

I'd say about 5 years. I do get off track occasionally, but I consider low-carb my "normal" eating plan.

That's true for me too. People ask "when are you going off your low carb diet" and I say, you're missing the point. This isn't a "special thing" I'm doing, with the intention to going back to "bad eating" later. If I went back to bad eating, I'd get fat again!!!
I eat low carb. It's how I eat. I drink lots of water, I eat sugar-free desserts. I eat lots of veggies and eat fish and chicken. It's just our lifestyle now

We're over a year now and Bob has gone from 305 down to 218. I've hit my ideal weight around 120. We eat different foods every day and it is all amazingly delicious. This isn't a diet of "depravation". It's a diet of sugar-avoidance, a good thing as far as I'm concerned!

I have been low carbing for over a year I agree that it is a life style not a diet. Some times it is hard to get small burger joints to not give me a bun but most people know about low carb now and suggest items on the menue. I got with the program to lower my blood pressure and it did and the weight droped from 255 to 205.

That's really great, both of you! I wonder if we were giving up smoking if people would ask "It's great you stopped smoking - when will you start smoking again"? We could answer "Oh once our lungs are nice and clean and we're feeling great, that sounds like the perfect time to start lighting up again, to pollute our lungs anew"
It's like, here we are, feeling great, at a healthy weight, and you're asking when we'll start drinking sugary soda and eating boxes of sugar-filled ice cream again? How about never?

I've been on low carb since Jan.'02. I weigh about 50 pounds less than when I started, but have lost about 75 because at times it's just been an up and down affair. If I go over my daily carb limit, I will immediately gain 4 lbs. I know this is mostly water, but it still takes a couple of days or more to get back to the earlier low. Sometimes I still fall off the wagon, but I know I always have to get back on it. Sometimes the devil is the Krispy Kreme in the Quik Chek (nowhere near as delicious as I remember them), sometimes it's a holiday or a birthday when I "choose to cheat," but the main thing for me is that I know I can never stop low-carbing. Once upon a time, vanity was my reason for dieting and it worked about half the time. Now it's about keeping my diabetes under control and that works all the time. Yep, sometimes I have a cigarette at a party; don't inhale (a la Clinton?), and toss it away at the end, reminding myself why I hate to smoke. Pee-yew! It stinks! It tastes horrible! How could I have smoked so much for so long? Crazy! Just Vented, Mary Ellen

That's great on your weight loss! Definitely we go for treats every once in a while, but really, there are so many low carb treats out now that we hardly ever have "sugar". If we have an ice cream treat, it's a low carb ice cream which is incredibly delicious. I think the huge number of low carb products out now is really a god-send for people who want to stay healthy.
It amazes me with all the lawsuits and cancer knowledge that people still *start* smoking cigarettes. Where do these new cigarette smokers come from? They know that people are dying, and suing, because they're addicted. The prices for cigarettes are ridiculous. Why do they start?
