Part of what Atkins promotes is drinking a lot of water. But actually this isn't just Atkins - just about *any* healthy eating plan you will go on will promote drinking ample water each day. The average American diet gets far too little water in it - people eat a lot of processed foods, and they don't drink nearly enough water. When you go on Atkins, eating many more vegetables, taking better care of yourself, you are increasing your water intake. Which is REALLY good for your body! But your body needs time to adjust to this. In the meantime, the bladder has started out small so you start to pee a lot.
Just as when you overeat all the time your stomach grows to adjust to this, as you start to drink more water, your bladder will grow to adjust for this. Up until now your bladder was actually "abnormally small" for what a normal adult would need, because you weren't getting enough water. You're now "pressing it out" as you drink more water, and it will start to grow larger and larger.
I know it can be a pain at first. I'm lucky, I work at home so I can go pretty much whenever I want to. My boyfriend works in an office so he just walks down the hall. While your body adjusts to this, be sure to be near a restroom and just go every hour whether you really think you need to or not.
After a while your body will adjust to this level of water intake and you'll be back to going only 2 or 3 times a day. Believe me, your body NEEDS this water in its system to work properly! So it's great you're getting the water in. I know it sucks when you have those accidents, I've been there. But our bodies do dumb things to us all the time When you're down to your ideal weight and feeling healthy, you'll look back and laugh at the tribulations you had along the way
