Low carb diets really emphasize how critical it is to take vitamins for your body to work in a healthy manner. This actually should be true no matter HOW you eat - low carb, high carb, or any other way. Do you take your vitamins?

We've always taken multivitamins - heck I grew up on Flinstones chewables Vitamins were just part of what you did each day. Once on low carb I learned all about essential oils and how critical they were. I suppose those parents who fed their kids cod liver oil were onto something!! It is amazing that we didn't take supplements for oils until recently, given how much they affect health. So now we take those daily too.

I have an article here on the vitamins, minerals and oils that your brain needs to function at peak efficiency -

I use Nature's Sunshine products almost exclusively. I take their Super Supplemental (which is a 4-a-day multiple) and 400 i.u.'s of Vitamin E with Selenium.

I sometimes take 1000 mg of time released C's, Herbal CA, and Balanced B's. B's are especially great for nerves and carpal tunnel, but I can't take it too many consecutive days because it has a "downer" effect.

I've been reading all the good stuff on EFA and would like to start incorporating them in my diet.

You know I didn't mention it, but I do actually take a separate Vitamin E capsule daily too because I used to have lots of problems with my skin - oily, breaking out, etc. Once I started taking vitamin E each day my skin is just SO much better. So that's my daily regimine - a multivitamin, a vitamin E capsule and an essential oils capsule. My boyfriend takes a multivitamin and an essential oils each day.

It's really amazing how critical they are to health. If my boyfriend forgets to take his vitamins, he stops losing weight. It's pretty much an immediate result. I guess whatever body processes are involved in weight loss need those vitamins in order to work properly, at least for him.

It's sort of a shame that our soils are so depleted that they don't give us all the vitamins we need any more. We do try to eat healthy foods - but no matter what combination we eat, we couldn't get enough of each vitamin into us on a given day. So the vitamins sort of cover the "empty spots" each day.

I polled my own family.

My mom takes multivitamins every day plus ginko biloba for circulation.

My sister takes multivitamins every day plus vitamin c to avoid colds.

My dad takes multivitamins daily.

So I guess I see where I get my vitamin habit from

Lisa,

I take a multi-vitamin everyday, plus,flax oil,
calcium, a combo of glucosamine,chondroitine & MSM. I tried the fish oil, but sure didn't agree with me. I hope the Flax oil works as well.

I heard from someone else that had problems with fish oil. I wonder if it's something that your body adjusts to over time, or if it's just a sort of allergy that certain people have. I suppose all of our bodies are different so it might be both!

I'd stopped taking vitamins for a week or two for various reasons and I really have to say it made a HUGE impact on me how important vitamins are. I caught a nasty cold about a week into it (which I still have), I've just been feeling sluggish the entire time, have had trouble falling asleep, trouble getting out of bed. The final straw was when (really and truly) my gums started to get sore and hurt!! I was like, what is going ON here??

It finally occurred to me to get going on my vitamins again, and only 3 days later there is a HUGE difference in how I feel and my gums feel much better again. And we try to eat fresh, healthy food too! It's really important for your health to get those vitamins in you daily. Your body doesn't "store up" many of them so if you miss several days, your body goes into a deficit.

Here's what I take -
* multivitamin with iron
* vitamin E supp
* vitamin C supp
* fish oils

Also, be sure to keep your vitamins out of the bathroom - moisture isn't good for vitamins The kitchen is a great place to keep them, because you really should take most vitamins with food

I've been a vitamin nut for over 30 years.
I take NOW Woman's multiple
Flax Oil
C
Cacium (plus vitamins, minerals and herbs)
I drink a Soy Protein drink everyday that also has a complete list of vitamins.

It takes a lot to keep me going

Oh, and I forgot -- chocolate! That's a vitamin isn't it?

I've been thinking about taking more calcium - the multivitamin I use doesn't provide 100%. I do have tums so I was thinking of just eating those ...
