tell me what a stratagey is and I might consider you true
Check your english plz. I am true??? lol, anywayz I think it's more than a little lame (not to mention not very intelligent) to say that there are no strategies involved in rts games, and after saying so daring me to contradict you. I mean come on! If u want to say something about a genre not forfilling its role, pick the RPG genre (i'm not saying there aren't any good RPG games), coz in this genre you will find a LOT of games that don't forfill their role simply because there is hardly ANYTHING to roleplay, especially the linear ones where choices that accually affect the outcome of the game are missing/lacking. As RTS games are concerned: do i really have to think of strategies for you? can't you even remotely imagine some yourself?
You always know when you have one of these games because they all follow the same format. Collet your Taelon, build a base, build an army, and over power the enemy.
Let's pick C&C generals shall we?
Ofcourse one has to overpower his enemies in some way to be able to pull off a win, but the question is HOW to overpower the enemy, if u think that you'll be able to beat anyone just by building a lot of units really fast you're wrong, it's about making full use of your units' abilities while taking your opponent down, and about using your units efficiently against enemy units (micromanagement).
For example:
Blitzkrieg II (c&c generals total conversion) i've blown up like 10 pershings (american heavy tank) with only a few panthers just because i managed my units better and i distracted my opponent by sacrificing some cannonfodder (drove a bmw bike right into his tank column. result: the pershings blew up some of their own while i flank attacked them with my panthers)
If i'm up against a turtler (someone who digs in at his base and spams perimiter defences all over the place), i can't just go in right to the front of the base now can i? My units would be slaughtered, so if i use planes to distract him on one side of his base and come up at the same time at another base-entrance with tanks and artillery to wreck havoc from a distance, with my tanks out of the defenders range and my artillery just close enough to target base-defences, this will force any player to counter-attack, now this counter is ofcourse predictable so I'll be able to respond quickly enough with either my tank force or bombers if my tank force isn't large enough to break the counter. And this is just a very small example of game play within generals, there are much much more tactics/strategies out there, and they differ a whole lot from game to game. So you see you do need a plan (preferably more than one) to pull off a win in any strategy game except maybe when playing n00bs, then it's just base rush end game within 5 min, but even that is called a strategy (so is turtling by the way). I suggest you go and try out some rts games and play some skilled players to prove you wrong if you still think "I'm not true" lol.
oh yeh
and yes cart racing is a genre cuz I saw it in a magazine
you are not kidding are you? You're seriously saying cart racing (the kind where you can shoot your opponents while driving) is a genre simply because some magazine said so? gimme a break <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
