Today (Monday, the 11th) is also Thanksgiving, here in Canada and I am most, and constantly, thankful for wildlife because it reminds me that there is beauty, intelligence and order on this planet of ours, in spite of the human species. I am often saddened, angered and discouraged at the damage we, as the so-called *superior* species, have done to destroy all that but every time I see a bird fly, or hear it call, every time I see the autumn leaves change colours, every time I smell the rich damp air after a rain, I know that we are really no more than a small speck in the grand scheme of things. And I feel renewed and hopeful, once again.
I am also thankful that, for every government which ignores the value and importance of wildlife and nature, there are individuals who are willing to stand up and protect it, write about it, photograph it, educate kids about it. People who devote their lives to volunteering, fostering, lobbying on behalf of wildlife which often, through no fault of their own, fall victim to the fate of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I am thankful for wildlife and nature because it has always brought beauty and wonder, comfort and solace into my life. And friends, let's not forget the friends! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
