I don't know if "frightening" is how I feel about this theory. The idea that our genetic makeup may be doomed for extinction seems to fit with the cycles of the earth.
The very fact that we have the ability to be aware of "extinction" may be is what makes the theory frightening. In being so called "superior intellegent", we have the idea that we are more important than other creatures on earth. But, importance doesn't mean we are immune to cycles of earth.
A question that crossed my mind as I read this post is, "If as the caps grow shorter and shorter, resulting in genetic abnormalities, such as cancer and immunodeficiency, and because cancer has been around for hundreds of years, does this mean the genetic decline has been going on for that long?"
Interesting thoughts for sure.
