Hi Marian,

I am finally writing about one of many animal sightings. We had company 2weeks ago and we took them for a drive through Prescott National Forest. We had just showed them our quiet place where the creek runs in the winter and had turned the truck around to leave. When we looked in front of us there were 9-10 Mule Deers walking together. They were beautiful! Our girls were so excited to see so many deer at one time. I took many pictures, but most of them didn't show up well. I was a real treat for all us.

Carrie! Welcome to the board! I'm so tickled that your girls got to see such a beautiful sight. If only more kids could see how amazing nature is, perhaps there wouldn't be so much destruction.

I'm glad found this board. Can't wait to hear more about all the sightings you are so blessed to see in your neck of the woods!

Marian

Welcome Carrie. Now someone remind exactly how are mule deer different than white-tailed deer? I remember driving from Denver to Crested Butte and seeing so many mule deer along the road. I was afraid we'd end up hitting one with the truck we were in, but luckily we didn't. I don't think we saw a group as large as your group, but one or two, or even three or four, here and there along the way.

Hi Carrie, Welcome to the board.

I loved seeing the Mule Deer in Arizona. While at the Grand Canyon (South) they are so used to people that you can almost walk right up to them. (Though anyone who did would be foolish and dangerous)

Lois, Mule Deer have a darker body and very long, Mule-like ears. They do not have the "white-tail" either.

Carrie, I hope you will post often with other sightings from the Copper State.

Are the two types of deer similar in size?

A belated welcome to the board, Carrie! A little warning, though: it can be addictive!!

I would love to hear more about the wildlife in your area. Marian has told us a bit about it from her visits there but we love new voices around here, too!

Lois, The two types of deer are a bit different in size. The mule deer is a tad larger. But not enough to notice unless you put them side-by-side. At least not that I remember. Of course these days, the menopausal memory isn't what it used to be. LOL
