Appearing in the morning paper is a story (written by Tom Meersman, Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune) of a woman last October riding her personal watercraft (jet ski) on the Illinois River. She stopped to admire the fall colors when all of a sudden a big carp jumped out of the water, hitting her in the face, and knocking her out. She came to face down in the water with blood flowing. She suffered a broken nose, concussion , black eye, injured back, and broken foot.
"Other boaters along the Illinois, Missouri and Mississippi rivers have reported dislocated jaws, facial cuts, broken ribs and serious bruises." The silver carp can grow to 50 pounds. They escaped from Southern fish farms in the 1980s.
Just goes to show you danger can come from anywhere...
