Okay, couldn't resist copying Marian style of intro! Beware....this is a long story.LOL
DH and I recently adopted a golden retriever/black lab puppy from a shelter. She's got this sort of ridge of fluff from between her eyes to the top of her head. If you are a Trekkie you'll recognize Whorf in that description. I think that's how his name is spelled anyway. Her eyes are slanted and almond shaped. DS and DH say she's cross eyed, but I refer to it as a rather exotic, asian look. And she's definitely a calm little lady,a true mama's girl.
Our big dog Brittany has been rather lonely since our elderly dog had to be euthanized a year ago. DH and I agreed back then to wait a year and see if we still wanted a second dog. When the year was up we began looking for the perfect pup. We found her finally and brought her home over Memorial weekend. Now, Brittany was already named when we got her and yes,for the singer. When we mentioned getting a new puppy several people teased that we should name her Christina. I said no way. Jessica Simpson would be a better choice if we were going to stay with the pop music theme. But we'd just wait and let the pup tell us her name. We knew it would have to be a female puppy because Brittany is undeniably the leader of the pack around here and a male pup probably wouldn't like it much. And at 130 lbs Brit would likely stand her ground. Warfare ahead! So,we got the pup on the last day of a camping trip (planned around her) and headed home. We stopped at a roadside rest area and DH got out to fish. Across the brook we saw a sign: "Jessie's Brook". Okay. On down the road an hour or so, painted in white on a boulder was "Happy 13th birthday Jessie and Britany". Okay....I gave up. Jessie it is.

OMG!! With all those signs, how could you not, eh? She sounds like a sweetie. I think everyone should get a non-standard looking pet. They need love as much as all the other perfect ones. I'm glad yours found such a loving home with you.

Well, Ruth, I may be biased, but I think *Jessie* is a brilliant choice for a name!!
I just love that story! And as for *non-standard-looking*, as Marian puts it, I have to laugh. Of my 2 current cats, Lexi fits that bill well!! ROFLMAO!!
Congrats on Britany's new sister!! BTW, how are the ferrets? Do you still have them?

Oh yes, we still have the ferrets. They are a bundle of fun, especially when we let them out. They have a 3-story luxury condo that came with them, so they do a lot of fun stuff when they aren't out too. Our other ferret was an only child and had a very small cage. So she was out from 8 am till 5 pm. These 2 girls aren't quite so spoiled!
Also,I confess to calling our new puppy jessibud on occasion. I don' know if others have this habit, but around our house the animals have their name and about 3-4 derivitive nicknames. Like Brittany is also Brittany B,Big Girl,Daddy's girl. Jessie is also Jessica, and Jessibud. Not to mention "you little cross eyed alien you". It's a wonder our animals ever learn to respond to their names!

You crack me up!! I'm flattered at your choice of jessibud!
Well, yes, they must be way smarter than we are, learning to respond to any and all names, especially if the tone implies or suggests food may be attached to the end of a call.....
Lexi's aliases include: Lex Luther, Lexi Girl, Sweet Pea, You-Sqirming-Hunk-Of-Fur! and Get-Back-Here-I'm-Not-Finished-Yet!! (this, when I'm trying to clip nails).
Mia is also known as: Momma Mia, Mia Pia, Sweet Peach and Oh-Come-On-I-Just-Want-To-Kiss-You (she's not the cuddly one of the two)
I'm sure if they could get their own food, they'd never put up with such nonsense....

OK, I'm a little slow at getting to messages these days.
THANKS a great big giant bunch for adopting from a shelter!!!!!Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The non-standard looking pets are the best. Oscar is a sharpei/rotweiller mix - try to picture that. He looks like Alf the alien (remember that show?). Milo is a fat old St. Bernard mix with one blue and one brown eye. She's another adorable non-standard looking pet. They are the ones that make our hearts melt.
Seems like the name Jessica was sent to you. I fostered a dog named Jessie, she was wonderful. I just saw her at our "Walk Your Paws" event a couple of weeks ago.
As far as names go....all of our pets have multiple names.
Smiley: Smiley Girl, Smiley Dog, Smilers, Smiles, Big Girl,
Dexter: Dex, Dexter Dog, DD, D, Bubbers, Bubby,Buddy, Booper, Bump Head, and Dufus (depending on his behavior). He answers to each, even Dufus.
Oscar: Oscy, Big O, O, Oscar De'Le Grouch
Hazel: Hoohoo, Hootie, Hootie Girl, Hoodelicious,
When I had Tear Drop she had over 10 names. Pets have a way of touching our hearts in so many ways that we find several terms of endearment for them.
Mmmmmmmmmmm....Baps
