On our quick trip to Las Vegas last weekend there was much of the former and little of the latter..Until my DH finally tied me to a chair and made me relax by the pool......and lo and behold there were birds fluttering around the palm trees. I asked the towel lady and she said they were black throated sparrows and I guess she was right, when I got home I looked them up, and it seems right. So that is an entirely new bird for me.

Now,for the Wild Life.....better left unsaid, except to say....Man-OH-Man.....leave me out here in the country, cause I can't handle the big city!! Especially one called Sin City! LOL

So glad you got to meet Marian, Ruth! Even if it was for such a short time.

I haven't been to Vegas yet but someday, I'm sure I'll get there. I, too, will prefer the wildlife to the Wild Life, though, I'm sure <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Sure to say, it was like a dream.....think country mouse meets city mouse!!! It was culture shock the entire time, added to in-law trauma and every other dysfunctional family plattitude you can list. It was truly a relief to retreat to the woods..and give my jangling nerves a rest.

Ruth, did you get to the Bellagio? Right now they have had no power for two days! Those poor people who were staying there had to find somewhere else to stay! I'm glad you got to see a new bird while you were here!! I was just outside and two bats flew overhead! That's soooo cool!

I agree with you, Ruth, I prefer the country life to the city life.

Where I lived in Pocahontas Co, WV, there is a fairly good sized ski resort called Snowshoe. A larger corporation bought it about 6 years ago and it has become even bigger, with more land being cleared for more slopes, condos, restaurants, hotels, bars, shopping areas, mountain bike trails, golf course, etc. and real estate sales have boomed in the surrounding area taking away even more habitat. As you drive up the main road that leads up the mountain to the resort there is a rustic looking sign that spans the road and reads "Forever Wild". All the locals laugh at that, because they are taking away habitat in an area with two endangered species (Cheat Mtn. Salamander and Northern Virginia flying squirrel) and building roads, houses, and all of the above mentioned items. So we've decided that "Forever Wild" must pertain to the night life that they boast about to the 150,000+ skiers that drive up that road each year to ski and party their weekends away.

Yes, we made it to the Bellagio. Beautiful! I first noticed the cascade of butterflies, and then the ceiling. It was awesome. I hope they have a back up generator or something to run the elavators at least. We were on the 17th floor and I can just imagine going up 17 floors to get our luggage and then hauling it back down to find other accomodations! We went to the strip on Monday and it was quite an experience. Outside every casino were guys distributing flyers for prostitutes, strippers and excort services. DH collected every one that was handed to him, much to my embarrassment. Brought them home and passed them out to all his buddies. Such souvenirs!
There's nothing like that here.

Ruth, Your Las Vegas Adventure sounds like a good one. It is nice to find out just how comfortable we are in our lives by visiting someplace else and thinking, "There no place like home."

I laughed out loud when I read about your DH's souvenires. When I was in Las Vegas those flyers were everywhere, on the sidewalks, car windshields, being handed out every 20 feet as we walked. I never would have thought to bring them home and pass them out. What a hoot!!!
