When the fur flies And, wooo-hoo, I just witnessed that one, first-hand!!! LOL. I had gone downstairs to get a drink and was coming back up, without turning on the lights (I am trying to *conserve*, ahem!!). Suddenly, at the top of the steps, on the floor, lies stretched out in all her glory, my cat Lexi. Of course, being in the dark, I didn't see her there. I obviously stepped on her because suddenly, there was a yowl and the scampering of kitty claws across the floor as she launched herself up and away...I cussed mildly, turned on the light and there, in her wake, are some small bits of fur!!! And this expression just popped into my mind! LOL! I apologized to poor Lexi, but reminded her that the top of the steps may not be the best seat in the house....

(I proceeded to wipe up my spilled drink while she watched from a safe distance...!)

- "It's a dog-eat-dog world" (when everyone fights to get what they want, no matter who gets hurt)

- "It's a dog's life" (though, in my house, that wouldn't be such a bad thing!! heehee)

- "He's in the doghouse" (to be in trouble; heehee, I often threaten my students that maybe we should build one for our classroom, for such moments!)

- To be the "underdog"
