Hi all, What are your favorite magazines to read? I really enjoy Spirituality and Health as well as What is Enlightement?. My guilty pleasures are People and Wired, I admit! I also love Taste of Home and Quick Cooking. I've just posted a review of What Is Enlightenment? that can be found here: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art25726.asp Tell me what you like to read, and why. (And am I the only one bugged by endless ads?!)

My two favorites are National Geographic, which I've loved since I was a child for many reasons, and Interweave Knits, because it captures the soul of knitting more than other knitting magazines.
Oprah's magazine is the only "womens' magazine" I can stomach. I like Martha Beck's columns, guest writers like Anne Lamott, Oprah's celebrity interviews and the book reviews. I recently found one called Bust online that looks good, but I haven't found it in print yet.
Sometimes I like to browse through ones like Architectural Digest or Metropolitan Home because of the design photos. I like Rolling Stone sometimes too. Oh, and I'm a sucker for lit reviews whenever I come across one, especially local ones or university published ones. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi mtnmermaid!
I don't like most women's mags, either. I used to subscribe to Oprah, but let it run out because most of the articles just weren't relevant to me. (Plus that mag has a huge amount of ads. I'd spend quite a bit of time ripping out the ads before I read it, and they were half the magazine!)
What is Bust about?
Boy, some of those design photos are gorgeous, aren't they?
I enjoy book and movie reviews, as well!
Since you enjoy National Geographic so much, do you travel at lot by any chance?
Another magazine that often has some good stuff is Science of Mind but I let my subscription to that one run out, too.
Almost forgot: I have a subscription to TV Guide as well. I'm tempted to subscribe to Parabola, and I snagged a copy of The Sedona Journal over the weekend...
So many books and mags...so little time. :rolling:

Parabola - is that one of the science mags?
Yeah, the design photos make me drool - the colors, the architecture. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I let my Oprah mag subscription run out too but sometimes I'll buy one or read my mom's.
Bust I think is a women's mag with a sassy feminist edge. The website is bust.com. I'm still trying to find a print copy to see for sure. One of the women who started it is the author of Stitch N'B*tch, (whoa, it censored that word the first time I typed it!) and I like her writing style.
I haven't traveled as much as I'd like to. What drew me to National Geographic as a kid were the stories about people and animals and the incredible photographs. Lately I've become interested in how our geography affects our psychology and it's fascinating reading from that aspect. There's just always something that grabs me so I've never gotten tired of reading it.
I tried Psychology Today for a while too but it's mostly fluffy pop psych and I'm finding that I like the hard core scientific psych journals better.

Hi! No, Parabola is a magazine exploring myth, archetypes, culture, and the search for meaning. Here's my review of it: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art14833.asp I bought the Friendship issue over the wekeend, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I used to like Psychology Today, but the last decade or so they started appealing to the lowest common denominator it seems. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Too bad. Remember Omni magazine from years ago? That used to be a great magazine with awesome covers. How neat to have a strong interest in culture, geography, and animals from such a young age. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> NG has some breathtaking photos in there, that's for sure! The NG Channel also has some neat documentaries, as well.
