This book wasn't exactly thumbs down, but I am neutral on it. The underlying message was a good one, but I think the plot could have been brightened up a bit. My almost 13 yo dd felt the book only rated an OK.
I will say we were experiencing a similar situation here and after reading the book, and some lengthy discussions, the situation is slowly resolving itself. The book seemed to give us a starting point for discussion.
