I recently featured an article here at BellaOnline about starting your own Family Game Night. It doesn't have to actually be with your family - it can be with anyone. It is a great way to connect and laugh together.

Do you have a Family Game Night?
Tell us about your family and the games you enjoy!

Are you thinking about starting one?

Hi I love games. My husband's family has started a nice tradition. We pick out games we want as a family for Christmas. My Mother in Law gets to open them up at Christmas because they are to the whole family. They stay at her house. So when we get together there, we always have a game to play. But the best part of the tradition is on New Year's Eve, the family plays the new games. We started this to not only be together on New Year's, but to have a safe and fun way to celebrate the New Year. We stay up almost the whole night playing games.

Judith, that is a wonderful idea, especially about your mother in law opening the "gifts"! It's hard to come up with alot of wrapped presents for the parents, beyond the traditional, and they LOVE to open stuff.

My family plays alot of games in the winter and spring, instead of getting cabin fever. Our favs are backgammon, connect four, monopoly, and Catch Phrase. It depends on how many people are at home as to which game we play. We all have our favorites.

Judith, I agree with babyquacker - that's a great idea! You never know what to get the parents or grandparents in the family. They don't need more nicknacks and it's so much fun discovering and playing new board games!

Having a family game night on New Year's Eve is perfect. What a fun and safe alternative to getting out and sharing the road with so many people who have been drinking too much.

Let us know what games you play this year!

Judith,

I would LOVE to have the Trivial Pursuit 1990s edition, but my parents couldn't probably care less about it. The generation gap would be too wide in my family, but maybe your family is different.

If you were choosing between the Scene It Disney edition or the Turner Classics edition, I'd also consider what generations would be playing the game.

If you haven't played Scene It before, you can play a demo to get an idea of how it works at the AreYouGame Demo Arcade.

They all sound like fun - and such a great idea for Christmas presents.

We have played the orignial Scene it. We like it, but we never get the questions that we know the answers to. We decided on The Disney one. We figured that my 3 yr could probably name more stuff than we can.

We have family that are in their early 20's, late teens that would have a problem with the 90's trivia. For us older kids, I got the SNL Scene it. I can't wait for Christmas. I will let you know how they are.

Some friends of ours got Trivial Pursuit 90's edition for Christmas and we played New Year's Eve. It was pretty fun..I'm usually terrible at Trivial Pursuit(well the questions asked to me ) but my team actually won a game! woo hoo. I liked playing in teams..first we played boys vs girls then we paired up with someone at random. Teams made the game go a little faster and seemed more entertaining.

I love Catch Phrase! We played this recently and everyone really had a good time. I'd love to check out Scene it sometime.

I like giving games for Christmas and receiving them.

We get together a lot to play either Trivial Pursuit, Risk or Mexican train with dominoes. It's lots of fun and can get quite vocal, especially when we're losing.

We have played the Disney Scene It! a few times. I have won each time, so now no one wants to play it with me. We got Outburst Remix too for Christmas. It is fun. It is a quick game that almost anyone (adult)can play. We played Imaginiff on New Year's too. You put players' names in the questions and you pick out which answer goes with the person. It is fun because you get to see what others think of you in a fun way.
