Democrats remind me of communists.........."always FOR the people"
Talking about recent protests in NYC. Can someone tell me how all those people can afford to protest for a week? Don't they have to go to work every day like most of us? Or maybe they are on public assistance (thanks to people loving democrats) (...)

There is nothing wrong with being a Reagan republican in America, but comparing Democrats with communists is like comparing republicans with fascists.
Why? Because never any kind of communism or socialism has exsisted in America.
If I would live in America and not in Europe I would be an independant libertarian, critical to both parties and just a supporter of teh Constitution, bill of rights, Freedom and Democracy.
I think a certain amount of taxes (fiscal responsability) is needed to be able to have a good federal and national transport system, public transport and infrastructure.
The problem of Democrats is that they are to linked with Unions and intrest groups and that the Republicans are to dependant on Corporate money, Lobby groups,
Christian Coalition, NRA and AIPAC.
It is strange that there is not an independant third party which take the third vote and votes of disappointed Democrats and Republicans.
Being fed up by the orchestred slick show of both parties, the propaganda machines and the waste of money campaigns.
A third party, the American Freedom Party would be a good idea. Not like the exsisting Green, Libertarian and Reform parties, but an appealing, optimistic/positivist,
real American party which unites moderate democrats, republicans, Reformists, Libertarians, Greens, Social-democrats and christian-democrats (if you have them in the USA).
A serious Opposition party with a good grassroots movement, with a scientific buro, Internetwork, 24 hours a day activists (run like a company, but not like the Democratic and Republican Molochs).
Under Bush the American Federal government is expanding rapidly (what about small government?),
the state debth is growing, unemployment is rising
and the gap between rich and poor is growing
(the third world and first world in one country).
Well done Bush and Democratic opposition (Congress)!

Your ideas are very good Pieter. I think that many Europeans look at America an think "What are they doing and thinking?"
We are still a young country, really and living up to the ideals we were founded on is a daunting task, the ego in many ways still runs the show here. It is not that there is not caring, loving, generous people in America, I know Republicans that are as nice as they come. I live in a very affluent area (I am not one of the rich though)
but I know many kind hearted rich people here.
We are a very emotional country and I think that is what gets in the way of our progress. Many here are run by their fears. We don't think things through. Also, we get brainwashed by the media. We work hard to raise our families and don't have time to think about the future or read alternative media. We eat terribly, then obsess about how fat and out of shape we are or how many wrinkles we have.
We have lots of addictions not just drugs (to work, sex, food, alcohol, religion) I don't work very much so I have time to think about this stuff. Anyway, hopefully G.W. will be out the the Whitehouse come November and Kerry will bring back a little sanity to the leadership of this country. Even still our country will still have a long way to go to be the ideal we sought to create when we were really young.

I'm the commander see-I don't need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president.
George W. Bush

Thanks for your answer Venus64.
I have to say that Europeans are not all
anti-Americans, but that they see a contradiction interminus in the American attitude sometimes.
From one side they see a puritinical, presbyteranian (Protestant) christian country
with almost fundamentalist beliefs (bible belt,
christian religion expressed in every part of life; the power of TV reverances, the Christian Coalition) and the rise the conservative revolution of the eightees and ninetees.
The shift of power in the Media from left-intellectuals to rightwing-intellectuals and
fanatics (Limbaugh and etc.).
In European view (eyes) far right TV stations, radio networks, News papers and magazines.
The power of the Military Industrial Complex
(where Eisenhower warned for in the fiftees)
in which Arm factories, Military, businessmen and politicians work together, and the Oil lobby and industry of Texas. Next to that the increasing power of the NRA and the influence of the Pro-life movement on politics.
We saw a development in which critical Americans, Peace- and civil rightsactivists
(Human rights organisations) and artists who
often make ironical or cynical work are being labeled Unpatriotic. That people wo have a well balanced political opinion (checks and ballances and counterveiling powers) and question America's foreign policy, America's military strategy and internal affairs are called softies or cissies.
We so saw a development to the far right,
a reactionary conservative force which unites the intrest of a small olicharchy of businessmen- and woman, congressmen-an women, upper highclass families and political, ethnic, military and religious networks. In this ongoing Conservative revolution (camouflaged with the so called
"Compassionate conservative" message,
Medicare, education and charitative propaganda means) in unvisible coalition is made between the Republican party, Conservative Democrats and Reform party loyalists of Pat Buchanan and Ros Perot.
In contrast with what Bush said his administration enlarges the Federal government and state control, the state debth is rising fast and civil liberties are deteriorating. On the other hand the Independant people (men and women who think for themselves), Democrats, Greens and other leftist groups are devided as ever.
They only share one common goal, Bush out of the White House.

Yes we are thinking, what is going on with that country with that great Constitution, the Bill of rights, Freedom and Democracy.
We see an anti-thesis in the sense of a devided country. We saw a tame Democratic media show in Boston and a Militarist-nationalist Republican show in the best Roam tradition, with a littlebit Colonial
imperialist arrogance.
We fear that Bush will win the elections, because we think the majority of Middle America is right-Conservative, Nationalist, Arm loving, orthodox-protestant and militarist.

For the Democrats (a majority over here in Europe favores the Multilaterist Kerry) we hope that moderate, liberal-conservative Republicans will go to the Democratic side, and that Reformparty people, Greens and independant voters will choose for a sensable America. Like you said you have nice Republicans, but their government will do much harm to America and the world when they continue this way.

I did not finish the thier sense "From one side...ninetees".
From the other side we see gambling, alcohol, drugs, pornography and a hedonistic and decadent culture of "Sex, drugs and Rock'n Roll".
Very good cinema (American beauty, Magnolia, Hapyness, Sue, Kids, Another day in Paradise, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive,
Bowlin for Columbine - Fahrenheit 9/11 I found less intresting- Nation TV, Crash, Natural Born Killers, American Psycho and etc.), briljant series like Sex in the City, Ally Mac Beal, Will&Grace, Six feet under the Ground, Twin Peaks which show us the struggle for life of the American Middle class in Cities, towns and subburbs.
We see daily America thrue documentries, reportages (photojournalism), American independant websites, essyas, text and books of excellent American writers, poets, textwriters, philosophers and the few good journalists that are left (Susan Sontag, Richard Rorty, and others).
We speak with Americans wo come to Europe to travel, study or work. And we have contact with our families and people here from Bella Online and other Forums and News Groups.
We read the New York Times, Newsweek, National Republik, the Washington Post (every now and then). We see that the leftists in America are much more active than in their soulmates in Europe. From Anarchist Ruckus
(Professional demonstrators), to Teamsters,
anarchist new York cabdrivers, teachers who are worried for the future of their kids, environmentalists, social democrats and traditional liberals (like the Kennedies),
Left is on the Move (Moveon, Bushhastogo)
as the Right is sticking to it's power and moblising it's forces (groundtroops).
We in Europe realise the significant importance of the elections in November,
and so follow the news from the other side of the ocean closely.
