Well, let's see. We had good reasons for naming our children.

William Michael Young - was named after both grandfathers - Wiliam (Dad's dad) & Michael (My Dad)- he goes by the middle name just like his father does.

Jordan Alyssa Young - We wanted a strong 1st name for a girl - Jordan was a unisex name & was Biblical, I wanted to soften the name - so Alyssa (plus the actress Alyssa Milano was so beautiful, I figured it couldn't hurt.)

Seth Daniel Taylor - Seth is the 3rd child of Adam & Eve. My husband's middle name is Adam, and even tnought the other 2 aren't his by blood, he considers them his children - so this was his 3rd child - Seth, Daniel - because he had no doubts when it came to God, we completely dedicated this baby to Him. Seth Daniel Taylor. (I wanted his middle name to be Gabriel so I'd have matching archAngels Michael & Gabriel, but hubby put his foot down. Hopefully I'll get a grandchild named Gabriel! )

We named our daughter Madison 6 years ago thinking it's different but not out there. Then POW! all of a sudden they were everywhere! Lucky for us we live in Wisconsin and that's the name of our state capital so there's not too many. My grandma bout had a coronary because we were naming her that "after our capital" LOL We truly just like the name. And it was the only girl's name we could agree on!

I am a teacher in a very small school and I once had three Zach's in the same class. I also had four Kayla's spread across three classes at one time. That got to be confusing at times.

I'm not really bothered by names, but I have come across some really strange ones over the years. My favorite of all time was "Lasagne".

Any of the really common names such as Michael, Matthew, John, Mary, Lisa, etc. If I see one more parent curse their child w/such a plebian name I'm gonna scream out. None of my children will be named such things. Names are as follows for my eventual four:

Rahne Marie
Akane Rebecca
Ranma Benjamin
Logan Alan

It won't be anything that I can scream across a playground and 8 little heads will turn. (unless we go to Japan and than Akane and Ranma will probably turn multiple heads)

Haha I love so many of these names (Madison, Jordan, Logan, etc.)...I think I'm gonna keep note of the trendy names that I love right now, that way a loong time down the line when I'm ready to have kids, I'll use them and they'll no longer be THE name of the year...

I love the name Sydney, partially because I love Australia so much...Do you think that's an overused name?? (don't you all go making it popular now!!)

Well, I realize William Michael must be very plebian to you; but we had very special family reasons for naming our firstborn son this - to honor both of his grandfathers. Had I not been beaten to it by my brother, my daughter would have been named the same way after her grandmothers. (Of course those names were Belinda and Rhoda - so not so common there.)

Naming my girls was torture. For the first, I sat on a stool (very pregnant) and read out each name in the 1001 Baby Names book. I had gone through all of the boys, mind, when I read aloud the girl's name Trista. My husband who had been saying variations of "no, nope, noway" for about 90 minutes suddenly said, "WAIT! That's it!" So that had to be it by that time. She ended up with 3 names actually and rather ironically... Trista Nicole Laurianne for two other "special" people in our lives (grrrrrrr )... an old ex-girlfriend of my husband, and the mother (who'd never be a grandmother) of a close friend of ours... who later became my husband's 2nd wife. (Not the mother/honourary grandmother! He married our friend, her daughter! )
Wonder why this marriage didn't last? LOL
Our daughter is a wonderful girl and I don't begrudge her her name despite the cad she has for a dad!
In fact... we have traced the 2 other Tristas we know directly to people who heard about her name and told someone else. No brushes, combs, pencils, door hangers with her name on it though when she was growing up. I wonder if that has changed since the famous Trista of Ryan and Trista fame? You might laugh about something so silly being important, but to this day, at 25 she is still sore about that!

Daughter 2 (different dad, whew) is named Ceara (pronounced Key-air-ah) Meredith Vaughan Heidebrecht. Aside from correcting people from the time she was able to talk that her name was with a hard "C" not a soft one eg. the Sarah or Sierra she normally got, she quite loves her name.
That's enough from me,
Pat, Patty, Patricia, Tricia, Trish... anything but Patsy!!
