You must have a good relationship with your cats to get them to do tricks. I've found that the only time they do anything is when they want to.

By the way, how did you know you were signed up at this message board? Did you fall asleep on the key board and wake up still on line?

My cats are kick @ss. I went to sleep and left this browser open. I have since re-traced my steps. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I know how i got here now.

There are two distinct sounds and hand signals I use for the two primary tricks I have my cats do. In the beginning they were always rewarded cat treats. However as time went on they needed less and less and now will do them for nothing. But I feel guilty and give them treats anyway since they stare at me expectantly.

The first cat I ever taught tricks to was to sit and roll over when I was 8. That was hard.

I have these cats trained both to sit and speak and jump in the air. I couldn't get either of them to roll over.

the main trick to training a cat to do anything is to have the trick based on actions or activities that your cat already does.

they do great with a lot of affection and a few treats for positive reinforcement. all the people i know whose cats will do tricks have very warm, interactive relationships with the animals overall. And none of them are animal trainers.

interesting. Gives me an idea on training one of mine to roll over.

I've seen them both do it. Perhaps next time I catch her doing it I'll hop in and reward her for it. See if I can work with her to do it again.

I had a cat who could do that once before it was really natural though. I think that's the problem with these two though.

Sasha will play fetch repeatedly with no reward. I think she really enjoys it. So long as it fits in her mouth and I throw it she brings it back to me and drops it on my keyboard or at my feet.

Sydney will just do some normal movement tricks. Jump up to certain spots etc... Sasha also does these but Sasha has had more work than Sydney as I've had her longer.

I think training with out cruelty is very cool.

I'm not sure what the heck is going on. However I can assure you that I did not make the above post. I do find it pretty amusing that someone has so much time on their hands to play such childish games. I dont even have a cat.

Ok something is crossed here. You have something strange going on. Because the person who made this strange post about her cats posted 12/12/03 08:29 AM and I posted 02/14/05 05:52 AM . I was not a member here in 2003 and I sure as heck did not post anything about teaching cats tricks. LMAO
