Hey Im Julia and Ive been interested in Wicca for about a year. I am finally deciding to get more involved and start practicing but my parents are not open to me trying this since I was brought up a Catholic and they wish for me to remain that way. I have no problem hiding this from parents if they don't agree with what I am doing. However, I know about circles and covens but I do not know anyone in my area who is also interested in Wicca. I was wondering, do I have to belong to a coven or have more than one person for circles or can I do this by myself? Also, if anyone has any tips for someone just starting Wicca, please reply. You can e-mail me at Snuggles143xoxo@netscape.net Thanks for your help

I myself practice as a solitary. There is a long standing tradtion of solitary Wiccans, those who work without a group or coven, so don't feel bad about that.

There is a great book called Wicca for the Solitary Practicioner by Scott Cunningham. I found it a great resource and good support for working alone.

I've got some good general Wiccan and Pagan web sites listed in the Pagan forum, so feel free to stop by and check them out.

As we don't seem to have anyone actively handling Wicca right now, I also "guest answer" stuff for the Wicca boards. Feel free to post questions, someone will answer.

Like Rae, I too am a solitary Witch living in the western US. I agree that Scott Cunningham's book is wonderful. I also like "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" by Silver Ravenwolf. It is an excellent primer of Witchcraft (sometimes called "Wicca.")

Merry Meet! My name is Brigit Silverbranch. I'm 53 (yep, that's years) old. I have been a coven member in a British Tradition since 1986, but have a number of friends who work Solitary and actually prefer it that way. I met my first Craft teacher at a Science Fiction convention. I know it seems a little wierd, but there is lot's of "cross-over" in Witchcraft from Fantasy and Science Fiction fandoms. If you are looking to meet up with other Pagan/Wiccan folks, Occult book shops often have message centers, and there's tons of stuff on-line. BB - Brigit

ok i havent read the book or anything i learn every thing from a thing called mdd i have heard people (waiccan) say MD witch is about the same i guess but i dont know, anyways. most books are BS and stuff on line is BS. the truth is wiccan is way simple to start but takes forever to master. u really do not need arrow root and rose pedals to do stuff, the idea of spell is to get u in a mode of thinking. (sorry for ny typos i am kinda being layz) any noobs please IM me and i will teach u my version of wiccan if thats really what i learned like i have said i have never studied "wiccan" if you know what mdd is them message me i wana talk of if its md anyways w/e ttyl

also rae i would take to talk to you, you seam like u are a active poster and i would like to see if my idea of wiccan is closer to your newer streamline version.

Marc

thank you for your interest. However, this thread is a very old thread and I am closing all old threads that were started prior to this year

Feel free to post any questions you have about Wicca in a new thread.
