Can any of you help identify or complete this poem from the 1890 tombstone of my 81 yr gggrandfather? I'd be thrilled if you could! Thanks for looking at it.

He sleeps beneath his native earth
Far from the ____ that gave him birth
His gentle ways shall ever dwell
(next 3 or 4 lines unreadable)

If you're near the actual tombstone, you might try doing a "rubbing" of it using thin paper and an artist's charcoal stick. Try to keep the charcoal out of the letters. This might bring up the actual wording even though you can't read them off the tombstone.

Beads, I found this through a search engine:

"He sleeps beneath his native earth
Far from the spot that gave him birth
His gentle ways shall ever dwell
In hearts that knew and loved him well."

That's actually quite touching.
