I think the best were Cujo and Misery. Except maybe for Richard Laymon, I`ve never read anything that kept me as interested as Misery. His movies are mostly let downs though . . . The difference is: King`s stuff is just that little far fetched while Richard Laymons` books are actually plausable, not all of them of course but more so than King. The chances of Aliens landing and taking over the world are a lot slimmer than the possibility of a sexual predator chasing after his ex wife for instance. . . . For people who enjoy King I cannot recommend Laymon enough! Go out try it, you`ll probably love it!

Hello! I'm an avid Stephen King reader as well. I have a question about one book though ...
The end of IT. I got lost when the giant tortoise burped the universe? Would someone kindly explain this bizarre part for me? <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> No matter how many times I read that section ... I'm just lost.

I liked the early King books. Among my favourites are The Stand, Misery and Salems Lot. There's no disputing his ability to write, but I always feel a little let down by some of his story matter.

Some people might be interested to know that there is an auction on eBay involving King: If youve ever wanted to be a character in a Stephen King novel, heres your chance! From September 1-25, 2005, Auction Cause will be conducting an auction through eBay Giving Works in which 17 authors are auctioning the opportunity to be a character in an upcoming novel, with the proceeds being donated to the First Amendment Project, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to protecting and promoting freedom of information, expression, and petition. The auction for the Stephen King character will be from September 8th-18th.

The latest bid stands at: US $11,100.00

I notice that you've seen the film of Misery, but never read the book. Read the book. It's a lot darker and far better than the film.

I don't read much Stephen King, but the ones I liked are Misery and The Shining.

The Talisman was co- written with Peter Straub, an excellent author in his own right! I often see it in used form available on Amazon.com.
You should also then read Black House, the sequel to The Talisman.

I just got through re-reading "Black House" - love that book!

King is who got me hooked when I was just a kid in the 5th grade - "Firestarter" was my first, and I devoured everything afterwards (well, all of his fiction, never really read the other stuff).

"Cell" was pretty cool, but I've been struggling bad with his last book - "Lisey's Story". I can't even seem to get out of the first chapter, and I've never had that problem with one of King's books before. Has he just "lost it" since his retirement/come back?
