I'm having the hardest time with the color blue. I've used blue food coloring that turned the soap purple ( now the sea fragrance doens't work) and I bought blue soap coloring at Michael's, used it and the soap color turned pink. What is going on? Has anyone else had problems with the color blue? Does anyone have other suggestions for the color blue--I'm wary of buying other blue dyes right in case the color changes. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Enina!! Blues can be difficult, as the lye mutates most blue colorants. I have read that Blue Ultamarine will not mutate, so I did get some, but haven't tried it yet!

Gosh!! I used just a touch, a "shake" of the pouch, into three pounds of soap.
You sure can use my seaweed soap on your site, however it has no coloarnt it in! LOL The color's actually more of an earthy green than the blue it looks like, but all of the color comes from soaking my seaweed in my lye water before adding the lye. :-)

Awesome!! I bet the kelp would have the same effect then! How long did you soak, and did you remove the seaweed before adding the lye to your oils?

Isn't it cool?!?!? I soaked it for only a couple of minutes and yes, I removed it.
Make the lye water, add the seaweed and kelp granules, measure a couple of oils out, strain my kelp and seaweed, measure the rest of oils, and so on. :-)

I use UM Blue for CP soaping and it does NOT turn into other colors.

Everything I have read is that you should not use food coloring for soaps...only for bubble baths and bath salts. The recommendations that I have followed use either cosmetic or candle colorants.
