I was wondering if anyone else has a hairless rat? My cousin had a friend who bred them. She gave me one. It is a female. She is the sweetest little animal! Tell me about your hairless rat, or your rat with fur, or any furry, even not so furry critters you have. I look forward to all the wonderful animal stories you would like to share.
Sincerely, moose

moose,

I currently have two fancy rats (with hair)! I have had hairless rats in the past and love them so very much.

You may be interested in joining (if you haven't already) a Yahoo Groups list for ratowners. Just go to http://www.yahoogroups.com/ratlist/ or search for ratlist. They are a super fun and supportive group!

Kitty,
I had a white rat a few years ago. She was really sweet! Unfortunately, rats have a bad reputation. I guess because of the bubonic plague stories where the infected fleas were carried along on the rats. Also, a lot of people don't like the naked tail. I wish more people would just give them a chance! Thank you for the website. I will definitely take a look at it!
Sincerely, moose

I don't have a hairless rat yet...my friend who is also a reputable rat breeder is trying to get a good genetic pair to breed.

Right now I have 5 ratties,all furred!
~Saukrates (in my avatar pic with me)- beige/white hooded standard
~Claribel - black/white hooded standard
~Keeping's Sprite - black/white bareback standard
~Keeping's Zephyr - black berkshire dumbo
~Keeping's Jellyroll - siamese dumbo
I love them to bits and they all have different personalities! They are awesome.I have been addicted to rats since 2001 when I got my first pair. They are better then the other small pets because they are less likely to bite then a hamster, not as destructive as gerbils and don't stink like mice.I have owned all of these rodents and currently have 16 mice and 1 gerbil too, they are good pets, but rats TOP them all!

Rat scratches are an honor!

Hallo, rat lovers
We have hairless rats is the UK and I met some at a PR show recently. All rats are cute, fuzzy or not and I have no special problem with hairless ones, except for the extra care needed in keeping them. In fact the Rat Fancy do not currently have classes for hairless rats because of welfare concerns in keeping them warm/ cool under show conditions - not saying that ratty lovers would not give tham the best of care. I am currently ratless for the forseeable future as my husband is allergic so have moved up to ferrets which are just as cute but not as portable. (I wouldn't move in with my husband until my best rat died, although I rehomed my rescues, so he knows his place in the pecking order!)

I have both hairless and furred rattie babies.

My first hairless are about 2 1/2 years now and are quite the elderly ladies!!!

I love them all but they do have very different caging and even, feeding needs as they age.
