Iguanas are great except it costs a heck of a lot of money to get started. Very specific requirements.

Yes I have wanted to get reptiles before but at this time I am unable to do so because the startup costs are just too high.:/
I might perhaps go to the SPCA someday soon and see if they have anything small and cute that needs a home. I have a few cages of various sizes and could afford food and bedding - tho not a very high cost for the animal itself.

I don't mean to sound rough, but please make sure that whatever pet you decide upon, that you do all the research before getting it. Exotic pets are not "trophy pets" that are displayed for some peoples personal ego's.
There is a lot of work that will go into being a life-long companion to an exotic pet, and some ahve very stringent requirements and guidelines that you MUST be aware of before hand.
Whatever you decide to get, please do some research before you acquire; from finding a qualified vet, proper diet requirements, what the needs are of said animal, etc.

This will prevent you from future headaches, and even the possibility of losing your new companion.

Thanks, John

Thanx but you don't need to tell me that. I've lived with animals all my life and know various risks and so forth. I would not just go and buy one, I would look into it first.

It is wonderful to hear from so many responsible pet owners here at the Exotic Pets forum. In the outside world I run into very unfortunate experiences from people that are not aware of the needs of certain animals to down right abuse. It really breaks my heart to see so much cruelty. Coming here to the forum always delights me to no end hearing about peoples "children." Many people I hear from treat their pets every bit as good as their own children. The people who abuse their pets, are abusive in nature. Some people simply just don't understand the needs of many exotic pets and jump into it with out knowing the special needs or being able to afford the special needs that the animals require.

Xoobee, keep us posted on the special pet you find at the SPCA. It does my heart good to hear of an animal finding a good home that has been abandoned. Keep in touch can't wait to hear all about the new little one.

Right now I'm sort of leaning towards degus.
I had one before but had to give him up because I couldn't afford a big enough cage for two. But I'll be working soon so I can get a sizeable cage that will be degu proof and cat proof. <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
