Hi!

I'm a fan of local wines. In Northeast PA, there are several wineries as well as just accross the border into NY. I particurlarly like the Mazza wines and their to-die-for Ice Wine that is only available just before the holidays. As I understand it, wines from the NY/PA area are very similar to those in France since the seasons are very similar.

I'm baffled by people that believe that only the wine from CA is "quality wine".

Does anyone else enjoy local wine?

I too enjoy local wines. Many states have great wineries. Whne I lived in Pennsylvania we would often visit the wineries located off Lancaster Pike between Philadelphia and Lancaster. Chadds-Ford Winery south of Philadelphia is also very good.

New Jersey has some nice wineries, though I'm not fond of the Renault Winery.

None of the wine drinkers I know are California-only types - especially with Washington State and Oregon producing such world class pinot noir wines. The Niagara region of Canada is world famous for its best-quality ice wines too, there aren't many that would dispute that.

Long Island is very well regarded, some of the wineries there are worth millions of dollars.

Other than those areas, there are "good" wines to be found just about anywhere in the US, but there aren't any other real pockets of high quality. I do love visiting any local winery I can and helping to support them, so they can grow and learn and maybe someday reach that level Just think of the people who had to support the Napa wineries back in the 50s and 60s, back when people thought "CA will never equal French quality"

I am by no means a connoisseur of wines - I just enjoy tasting all the different wines out there. Should you ever get into the Northeast PA area (it's called Northeast, not just located in the northeast ), Mazza Wines doesn't wait until a tour ends to allow wine tasting . Crackers and water are avilable and they are very friendly people. A tour of the winery is available whenever you decided to go. While you're there you can gaze over grape fields out to the horizon, or look northwest and watch the sunsets over Lake Erie.
Hey, what can I say, I lived there a good deal of my life. :rolling:

You don't have to be a wine expert to share an opinion. Wine is like art. Tastes vary widely. Sometimes "experts" become a little apart from the vast majority of those who enjoy wine.

What wine do you like the most? Can you share why you enjoy it?
