What is the best foundation to wear when you have dry skin?

From my experience (as one that has dry skin), any foundation is NOT oil free or for "oily skin". However, I accidently bought oil free before, and just put a layer of baby oil on first before applying.
I use liquid Almay hypoallergenic, myself.

When I'm really dry, I sometimes use a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. With the tinted moisturizer, it will not cake, and you can keep reapplying as needed throughout the day. Cover Girl Smoothers makes one. Almay makes one. I use Revlon Skinlights (in bare light), which is technically a skin illuminator, but it's moisturizing, and it gives a dewy look. A little bronzer on the cheeks forhead and chin, and you have a nice natural moist look.

I almost always use Este Lauder foundation.It has alway been good for my skin.
When my skin feels dry I make sure I always use a good moisturizer. I'm using Cetaphil right now. It is very moisturizing so my foundation always goes on smoothly.

Janet, It's interesting you mention Almay. I was using Shake Shake from http://ccb-paris.com/ . It worked beautifully and then I ran out. So, I ordered new stuff and in the meantime I used Almay. Well, that totally dried me out. So, now I've been using olay daily liquid and Olay moisturizer. My skin is repairing. I'm glad it works for you though & thanks for the advice. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

BTW, I recently started using a vaporizor in my bedroom, and boy what a difference that has made. Before this, I was using a lot of moisturizers, but I was fighting a losing battle. The vaporizor makes a huge difference. In addition to putting moisture in the air, when I add a few drops of essential oil, and it adds a wonderful scent. At night, I add almond and vanilla oils, and it is yummy and relaxing. During the day, I love rose oil, or lime and lemon oil, or grapefruit.

Just wear any moisturizer underneath your regular foundation. And when I say "any," I mean:
1) Make sure it has no silicone (silicone makes it clump for some reason);
2) Make sure it's oil-based (since it's winter right now, water-based moisturizers will freeze in your pores);
3) Make sure it's noncomedogenic.

I would make or purchase a really good hydrating facial moisturizer that contains rosehip seed oil, borage oil & evening primrose oil. They are all very high in EFA's which our skin needs to stay healthy & supple.
