Hi guys,
I was wondering, how effective do you find web hosting directories? Do the new users really trust the rating of WHD for web hosting companies?.

I've used several graphic design directories for my business and I have gotten a fairly steady stream of response. I think one should be selective when choosing a directory as there are many that are not updated regularly and/or have many broken links.

I think Google is the best source to find a web host !!

What I find a little bit more effective is in other forums that are for web design such as, www.biorust.com (my favorite), www.pixel2life.org , or you can google web design community, and you can ask there.. ask like what they use and what they recommend, its kinda like a WHD, theres things that you want with your package and things you dont need. I use netrillium.net, only because they have a good support system they also respond pretty fast and they are up 99.9% of the time. If your transferring your site it takes about 2 days. Honestly Ive only used a WHD , I usually use web design resources. I hope that made sense.

In my opinion, the primary reason for getting listed in most web hosting directories is for increasing your link popularity.

The major search engines like to see other related sites link to your site. The more popular and reputable the site linking to you is, the more popular you can become.

Other than that, MOST directories send little or no traffic to your site. Of course there are a few notable exceptions.
