Hello,

I'm looking to purchase Dreamweaver and I wanted to know from anyone who uses Fireworks, is it a good program?

Thanks, <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Hi Maria,

Fireworks has an excellent reputation. Very reliable and professional program.

Good Luck!

I'm planning on buying it on E-bay.

What about Homesite? Should I get that too?

I'm a FP master now, but I want to branch out into Dreamweaver.

Thanks so much,

I use an early version of Homesite - Version 1.2 - and like it very much. But if you are getting Dreamweaver and Fireworks - lucky lucky you - you probably won't need anything else. They are the industry standards. By the way there's a new version out - Dreamweaver and Fireworks MX so you might want to download the trials from the Macromedia web site before you commit yourself. They last a month - you should know by that time.

The address is www.macromedia.com - I think they have a special offer on just now too for the Dreamweaver 4 set. Why are you buying on Ebay by the way? I don't think you can transfer a software licence with second hand software so if you register it you might have problems.

I would stick with one or the other (Homesite or Dreamweaver)...I use Dreamweaver and LOVE it! It works seamlessly with Fireworks (which I LOVE as well) I actually bought my software from eBay and am happy with my decision to do so. I am a freelance designer and have definitely gotten my money's worth from both of these software programs. They are really everything I need...
Good luck to you!

Dreamweaver is actually the web design software and Fireworks is the Graphic Design program, similar to Photoshop. Basically Dreamweaver = Front Page and Photoshop = Fireworks. The first two are WYSIWYG editors for web design and the latter are image editors and design tools.

To answer your question, I think it is the best design software out there. It is far easier to use than Photoshop and just in watching the tutorials within the software, you can teach yourself how to use it. It can do everything from design websites to creating animations. It's a wonderful tool.

I use it constantly for just about everything. So if you plan to buy, I highly recommend.

It should be interesting to see what Dreamweaver (and Flash) become now that Adobe is purchasing Macromedia. Flash and PDF combined into something brand new, I suspect.

I use the entire Macromedia suite and love them all. I create illustrations, logos, brochures and web site layouts etc. using Freehand. I use Dreamweaver to create all my websites and rely heavily on Fireworks to do image editing of photos and create complex roll over menu bars and simple animations. And, of course Flash for wonderful seamless animations and websites.

If you want, you can create an entire web page using Fireworks, but I use it mainly to convert the graphics I have created in Freehand to gif or jpgs and then export those into Dreamweaver and compile everything using Dreamweaver. Sometimes to have greater control of my art elements I will create an entire home page in Fireworks, complete with animated buttons and export the whole thing as one big (sliced) graphic into Dreamweaver.

The programs are easy to use and you can self teach yourself. I love Macromedia and am wary to see what evolves after the merger with Adobe. I have a feeling that since Freehand has always been a rival to Illustrator it may get the axe...but I am confident that Dreamweaver and Flash will make it.

I have always been a little curious about the differences between Photoshop and Fireworks, but so far I find that I can accomplish all I need using Fireworks, in terms of image editing, dropping out backgrounds and retouching photos and all my other graphic design needs it gets the job done and I don't feel the need to drop $500 to purchase Photoshop.
