Hi everyone, My name is Susan Gross, and I am the new host of the PC Advice site. I'm so glad to be able to share my love of computers with you! I work with PC, Mac and Unix operating systems so look for articles and resources for all three platforms to be added to the site. Please email me with any comments or suggestions you have, and I'll try to respond promptly. Susan GrossPC Advicepcadvice@bellaonline.comsite | forum | newsletter

Hi Susan,
Nice to meet you, my name is Barbara and I'm a fairly new computer user. I have emachines computer, windows XP, MSN9 dial up service with usually a speed of 45kbps or more. I also have Norton installed.
I've been having problems getting sites to load, everything is so slow, is it because I have dial-up? I don't know anything about computers so any info you can provide will be appreciated.
I'm happy I found this section because I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future.
Thank You
susan

Hi Barbara,
Its nice to meet you too!
About your computer being slow to load sites:
If the computer is always slow to load certain sites, its likely because you have dialup. This would be especially true if the sites have lots of pictures and/or other media files, such as movie clips or sounds.
If the computer used to load these same sites faster than it does now, I suggest that you delete your Temporary Internet files.
To do that, go to Internet Explorer and then to Tools | Internet Options and click on the General tab. Under the heading Temporary Internet Files click on Delete Files.
Also, go to your Recycle Bin and right-click on it. Then choose Empty Recycle Bin. This will delete all the files that are currently in your Recycle Bin.
Have you installed any new programs recently? If so, which ones?

Hi Susan,
Sorry this reply is so late. I empty cookies and temp files everyday before I log off. Last week I downloaded MSN Accelerator, in hopes that this would help with loading time but it didn't help at all, everything is very slow, especially sites that have discussion boards like this one. On some sites I get blank screens in between reading posts or replying to a post. I have the accelerator set at the default level, maybe I should try a faster one?
Thanks for any help!!

Hi again, I'm not familliar with that MSN program but you can go here to Google to read a newsgroup (sort of like the bulletin boards here, but with more people) about it, and perhaps someone there may have some ideas. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr....msn.discussion
