I read an article in the Virus section of the computer area which extolls Alexa as a great way to get rid of popup ads. The sites I've found to deal with spyware -- software that is used to send information that you haven't agreed to send to other websites-- say that alexa is definitely a baddie.

Can anyone advise about this? I've just had the devil's own trouble getting rid of Xupiter and Gator. But I hate those popups. Help?

I think the stuff you are looking for is Ad-Aware 6.0 by lavasoft. Dunno the homepage but just search around for Ad-Aware 6.0, and yes, it's a freeware.

spybot is a great program to use for adware and spyware http://www.safer-networking.org/

also for pop ups I would recommend google toolbar

I find it catches more spyware than Spybot, but I use both anyways.

i like microsoft anti-spy by microsoft. it's free and it works. you can downolad it for free from www.microsoft.com

I think, that spyware may be on your startup sections.
