Hi Jean

That is odd that the color is set the same. To change the default font settings in Word ....

At the bottom of the Format | Font dialog box you will see a Default button. Make your font selections that you want to be your default. Click on the Default button. You will get a "warning" prompt that you are changing the Normal template. That is ok so click on OK. that should work for you.

For EXCEL
This problem is probably because Excel uses "Automatic" set for font color which is you windows default color. That can effect the Office product. I will have to look up how to change that because this foggy old brain of mine isn't remembering. I will post again as soon as I find out how to change it.

Hi Jeanne,

To change the windows defaul color.
Right click on the desk top and go to properties
Click on the Appearances tab

Now from here, I am working in the blinds somewhat because I do not have Win 2000 but I think you should have the ability to click on a drop down and choose the display item directly on that screen. If not look for an Advanced button (which is what XP has) .... from the item drop down select Window. There should be a Window defaul color you can change. I'll bet it is set for purple. Change it to black (or whatever choice you might want).

Throughout the Office product any where it defaults to "Automatic" color takes on the property you set here as being the Automatic or default color. Since Excel's Default font is Automatic it takes on the color set in windows.

Hi Chris,
Horray I'm now in Black, God that was so easy. I will keep this info in my file so if it happens again I know what to do. I can't believe it was so easy and I had struggled for weeks asking my tutors at college if they knew how to do it. My daughter tried and no luck,I think it was my daughter that set it at purple in the first place, just wait until I tell her. So once again thanks a lot Chris for you help. If anything goes wrong again I'll come on here and shout for you.

Thanks You, Thank You, Thank You
