Although probably not as much as my poor knowledge of computers. Long story short: Have ACER TravelMate 507DX. Bad hotel connection fried internal modem. Computer guy friend disabled internal and fitted with a DLink modem card. Modem card works 3 minutes, then rests for 3 minutes. Have not tried support from D-Link site, but if there's a quick fix or answer, would just as soon try to resolve this myself and not bother with lengthy problem-solving. So, any quick answers or quick fixes? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Sorry but I do not have any experience with D-Link modems. Can your friend help you with it? Otherwise, I would check out their web support.

in short... modem cards are [censored], they are to teh most degree software based i.e. they use the systems cpu much more than a hardware based external modem. what speed is your system? if your connected to the net and your cpu usage increases alot from running programs etc you will most likely get disconnects because cpu isnt fast enough to maintain the connection and run the other programs.

in short buy a decent hardware external modem and your problems will vanish over night.
