Okay, if you were here with me right now, I'd give you a big hug and make you some tea!!!

The sockknitting link-- OMG!

After months- well, almost a year of trying- I've actually made some progress on a sock!!!

Tonight (I'm a night owl, so for me to be up knitting this time of night is normal for me) I cast on some purple wool on to size 6 bamboo needles. I did the ribbing, a bit of stockinette, did the heel flap, the cone for the heel, and started on the gussett.

A sleepy puppy who wants to get on his part of the bed (he loves to sleep where I like to knit or crochet) is giving me the evil eye-- and that means I need to put down the needles and go to bed.

I sincerely wish I would have found this forum eleven months ago. For some people, knitting a sock may not be that big of a deal; for me, it has been such a challenge that the more I failed, the more I wanted it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

GREAT, that is so fantastic. I was really hoping those directions would help you but word or warning, these are so addictive. I went from being terrified of them to a sock addict. I am really glad ok now lets go get some more sock yarn, you can never have too much you know, hehhehehehehehe.

I'm addicted. My mom likes little short socks she can wear over her TED hose-- but the store bought ones are always white.

I don't think she is going to have the color problem anymore!!! Also, with the handknit socks, the heels seem much thicker, and I hope will last longer. Now that I have an understanding of the sock construction, I have another book which shows how to replace worn heels on otherwise good handknit socks-- and those directions make sense!

I might need a twelve-step program. . .

Well, the joke around my household for years has been--

"You can have my yarn and hook when you pry it out of my cold, dead (and well-manicured)hands!"

I laugh at myself, because I have little stashes of yarn and hooks (or needles) everywhere! In my car, at work, etc. One never knows when they might need to take up some yarn and do something!!!

My goal is to make socks in the New Year. I bought the booklet "Socks Soar" which uses two circular needles.

I have that book, as well as The Magic Loop. For me, I think I was missing the basic understanding as to how to knit socks, which is why neither book did much for me.

I think I will return to the Socks Soar here soon-- I bet it will make sense to me now.

Hey Evil, I'm going to attempt them over the holidays. I have about 4 million balls of sock yarn. Ok, maybe not that much but I do want to add some other colors to my inventory. My DH said that he would "NEVER" wear them, but one day I made him put a pair on and he is now a believer!

I used to manage retail stores. My basic selling theory was simple-- if I could just get a person to try something on, I could sell it to them.

Same goes for knitworks. I made a hat out of camoflauge yarn (yes, I thought the colors were quite ugly, but the hat looked good!) and the intended person didn't like it. So I says-- "Hey, humor me, try it on." He did. I then said, "Great, give it back to me now, I'll give it to someone else." Once he had the hat on, saw how well it fit and how warm it was-- he was hooked.

Such is life with men, huh?
