I completed row 9 and there seems to be an irregularity at the point where I change from knit stitch to purl stitch and from purl stitch to knit stitch.

I reworked the row a few times and the same thing happens. Should I simply knit over what looks like a double loop at the irregular points?

The total number of stitches looks to be 36 or 37 but I am not sure. The non-uniform stitches are difficult to count because they run together.

You must count the stitches. You may want to get some stitch markers and place them on each end so thta you can easily see where the knit stitches end.

That's not it, Eva. There is what appears to be a double stitch at each point where there is a change from knit stitch to purl stitch and from purl stitch to knit stitch. The stitches at those changeover places look different than the rest of the pattern.

I'll unravel row 9 once more and if I can't fix it then I'll do knit stitches for the entire dishcloth. :music:

When I get more experience, I'll combine knit stitches and purl stitches in the same row. :rolling:

Problem solved! When I stitched the transition from knit to purl and purl to knit, I had the yarn on the wrong side.

With reference book in plain view and following the instructions to the letter, it still took three tries to identify the mistake. I probably won't make that error for a while (hopefully).
