I finally knit my first scarf using Brittany walnut needles, after trying unsuccessfully for 15 years to knit. I am convinced it was the needles - did not like plastic or metal but these were a joy to use. Now that I am hooked I find these needles are no longer available. Can someone compare the Brittany birch; rosewood - what brand do you like; bamboo and whatever other wood there is out there.I also found a walnut needle made by Silvergoose..opinions please

Brittany,
My favorite needles are some birch needles hand made by my son while he was stationed in Germany. Next to those are some bamboo needles that I found in a big bundle of needles at the thrift store. I have since bought more of the bamboo ones in the double pointed as well as the circular variety. I like the feel of natural materials better and they don't seem to hang up on the yarn like I thought they would.

I learned to knit on metal needles with the acrylic yarn of the seventies... stiff nasty yarn, and cold, unyielding needles. I've been using the clover bamboo needles... and i am in LOVE! They are warm, and smooth, and light. They LOVE the wool.. and yes, although i still occasionally crochet with acrylic, wool is the yarn of choice. Clover bamboo needles are easy to find... JoAnn Fabrics, AC Moore... Walmart hasn't caught on yet, but they will.... I have a circular thirteen that i have used on several projects... some real abuse... and they are still smooth and easy on the hands. I would recommend them without hesitation!

I love Clover bamboo needles also. They feel so good in my hands and the yarn does not slip. I knitted with metal needles for many years and after using bamboo, I'll never go back!

I have tryed the bamboo needles and the yarn clinges to the needle to much. So I use Susan Bates their warm like wood and move better for me. fish
