HI Mon!

I was wondering what kind of information, personal or otherwise, you might be able to give me on Valarian Root for anxiety and stress. Both my better half and my aunt are looking for something as an anti-stresser from work to use at home.

Thanks!

I have just started taking Valerian at night. It seems to have helped me sleep more soundly, which in turn has helped improve my mood. HTH!

Hi Chele.. I saw your post and hope you don't mind if I post an answer.. Valerian root is a wonderful herb for relaxation. It improves circulation and acts as a seditive. It can reduce mucus from colds. It is good for treating anxiety, fatigue, high blood pressure, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramps, muscle cramps, nervousness, pain, spasms, stress, and ulcers! It can be taken in tablets, but works best when used as a tea. The only problem with Valerian is the smell.. smells like dirty socks..lol.. really. Kava Kava is a similar herb, acts in much the same way.. without the smell.. Love and Light..

Valerian root has been used in my family for generations, and I keep a bottle of it on my medicine chest shelf. My mother used it as a tea, but now I have it in (herbal) capsule form. It is probably one of the very few remedies I trust, as it seems to be side effect free... at least for me. If I am stressed, especially at night, it does help relax me. For those with high blood pressure problems, it also seems to work well.

I have used Valerian root for years for stress and to help me sleep. I have found the effects very helpful. I sleep better and wake up feeling rested. I never feel that "hung over" feeling that some products can give.

Valerian is quite strong and if you are depressed it is not recommended (especially if taking medicine). I prefer to use passion flower (in caps or ticture) or kava kava.

I've taken Valerian Root in the past and it's been very useful. I've also used Kava Kava, but they discovered a few years ago that Kava Kava is very hard on your liver. I'd suggest seeing an herbalist or naturopath before taking Kava Kava.

I hate the taste, but several people I know report that drinking chamomile tea is VERY calming.
