When I hear young, educated Iraqi's here in the Netherlands who voted, and who want to decide what direction Iraq is going. They want the terror to stop and the occupying forces to leave.
What I do not hear you people speaking of, are the Secular list or parties which people can vote for next to the religious and ethnic ones.
You have a United iraqi list in which al groups play a role, Shi'ites, Sunnites and Kurds.
I hope that the Kurds will get and maintain their Autonomic Kurdistan region.
My dream would be to unite all Kurds of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey in one Kurdistan, for all 20 million Kurds in the region. When they will get not more autonomy and freedom in those countries, they will form the trouble of the near fututere. The Persmegga's are good fighters.

Iraqis didn�t request democracy or elections. They are currently doing the democracy/election thing because in essence they have no choice in the matter in order to hopefully end this situation, In other words these elections were forced upon them and they know it so they are choosing the easiest way out, namely going along with the "program" and waiting for the troop withdrawals.
Mideasteners are a religious peoples and have had a religious government from ancient times, and it will return to be that way; so all this is just one big farce because those people will not give up their religion, religious based government, religious culture or their identity as such a people.

If the troops left now it would be civil war, and in the future, and the idea that US troops will not leave when they are asked to will cement the Iraqi people together as a unit. When they finally realize that the US troops are not going to leave even if they are asked to leave, the whole nation of Iraq will attack coalition troops. There were only two options up front by going into Iraq and these are to lose the war or occupy the country permanently because if they leave this will all would have been in vain.

I guess i have only one question. Is there anybody amoungest these posters who would be willing to sacrifice a son or daughter for the fight in Iraq? I know its a tough question , but i feel that some people would only be willing to sacrifice if it were someone elses kids.

I wouldn't stop my son or daughter from fighting in Iraq if that's what they wanted to do.

200 000 terrorists today? I believe an early figure was 3 000 to 4 000, so if our objective was to create new ones and concentrate them in a killing field far from home, we have succeeded far beyond my wildest dreams (or nightmares). Killing 200 000 will take some effort on our part, adn at 10:1 that means 20 000 of our soldiers, a price the people will start to winch at. Well, 51% vited for it, so let them send their sons & daughters.

I did offer to help concerned friends keep their son out of any draft. Vietnam did teach me values! Their son is too old (22) if one were to be started now, so it was an easy promise.

Pieter. I too would like to see an autonomous Kurdstan. I think that Saladin was a Kurd and it was also at this time that the world witnessed the flourishing of Math, Science, Medicine and poetry. In the midst of the cruelty and horrors of the crusades a peace broke out and many concessions were made.
