Eric, IMO Marshall Zhukov & the brave Soviet people, not Stalin, contributed greatly toward winning WW2 Carl

Eric, I don't believe that's fully true that the Eastern front is mentioned. We learned about the treaty betweent Stalin and Hitler and how eventually the Germans invaded Russia and were fought off.
Neither side is innocent. I recently got a new issue of World War II magazine and they had an interesting article about Auschwitz and how Germany used it as a place to make it's Synthetic fuel which powered its military and mainly its airforce. That one country (Germany) was able to use all their own and those in the camps to produce half of all the fuel used in WW2.
Now, after we gave Britain our Enigma machines, they went on to play with the codes while we later received little recognition for our efforts. Churchill talked about honor and the such, but Stalin played with him and FDR like puppets and had them even poke fun at one another. Britain and America also wouldn't let one of the best Parachute brigades (all Polish) to fly into Warsaw even though they were formed to liberate Warsaw. In all, none of us are all innocent.

Frank
Are you talking about the Great Russian Ally that refused to pay for all the lend lease equipment,. ( Studebaker trucks, Hurricane Fighter planes and food that was sent by the Murmansk run in the North Sea at the cost of so many American seaman's life?? ( THIS WAS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS)
Is this the same Ally that screamed for a second front in the West, but refused to help the Americans on the Eastern front against the Japanese But three weeks before Japan surrendered they started taking over Japanese held territory
Whoa Frank, fair is fair here. Lets admit that it was a whole lot easier to send trucks, planes, and food over to the Soviets that it was sending troops over there. Sure, we sent equipment there for them to fight the war. That was a far cry from sending our troops there for the slaughter. As far as the Soviets sending troops to fight the Japs? Common, they were in a life or death battle on the homefront. On there own soil!! They lost 20 million of their citizens during that war frank. In contrast, we lost about 450,000. Without the eastern Europeon front fought by the Soviets, we would have lost hundreds of thousnads more of our troops, maybe millions. Now, am i an apoligist for the horrible behaviour the Soviets exibited in so far as the Katyn forest massacre is concerned, or there dispicable behavior during the Warsaw rising is concerned? Hell no!! But fair is fair

Frank, Add Iraq to your list. We may not leave behind war dead, but we will leave behind plenty of blood and body parts! You will just have to wait a few years to total up the dead. Frank... none of our business? i don't understand your point. I stated that we lost approx. 450,000 in WW2. Your posting was 78,000. I don't get it. As far as the 23,000 missing, i get that . I have an Uncle who has been missing in Belgium since 1944, therfore i get that! What i didn't get is your response. Did i say our losses don't count? Reread Frank. All i was saying was that we can't forget the Soviet sacrafices. 20 Million Frank! If my math is correct, then that means we lost one person to their forty! Not to mention a good part of the eastern front part of the war was on their territory. I,m not going to critisize them for not extending their participation to the Asian front. Nor will i critisize them for not paying back to us our Studibackors or the Jeeps or food or whatever the hell else we sent them during the war. Because, once again, its a whole lot better to send materials and not get paid back for it then to send men and never get them back. As someone who was in that position before, i can really appreciate that.

Mason, No you did not say that. I got the figures off the American military Cemeteries in Europe.. That just covers the European front.. But there is the navy, marines in the Pacific plus other Army and airforce units. I confess that I do not have the exact US figure.. I just quoted the figure on that Web site. If that Is the figure that you got.. Then since I really do not know the total, then I accept your figure. As for the Russian casualties, I will accept that too.But the Russians are responsible for a lot of their own casualties. Stalin Murdered his whole General Staff, he sent millions to Gulags, and Mental institutions..He went hand in hand with Hitler attacking Poland from the east while Hitler attacked from the west. Mason, meaning no disrespect to you.. I stand by my statements.. Although, you are right..We would have lost more men the other way. But just try to imagine if we talked like this in Russia.. We would get a bullet behind the neck, or have our Borscht spiked with Dioxyn.. Again Mason Chill out. This was good to get this out of my system. You served your time in NAM, so you have every right to express yourself.
