Frank was very disappointed that young people in Poland do not know the songs like "Gleboka Studzienka" or "czerwony pas".

How is it really? Did you hear about these songs or there is a terrible gap between my generation (born in 60ies) and yours born in 80-es probably?

uhm... I must dissapoint you, I don't know these songs :|

I have been in this forum for well over a year now.. And in that time I indeed was living in the past..I was at first shocked by the fact that the young Poles do not know the songs of our grandparents..We have the same situation here in America.. The world is changing.. After each generation,a little more is lost.. But a lot more is gained. My Father came to America as an semi illiterate peasant..Following in his footsteps.. I myself am not educated.. But have you noticed the young people coming from Europe today?? They are very well educated.. Notice how well they speak English plus other languages..We Americans can learn a lot from them..My hat goes off to them.. They deserve a lot of credit.

I know there are many older Polish Americans who are shocked to learn that the Polka and polka dances in Poland are rare and even almost unheard of. i have this image of many Polish Americans, thinking Poles are spending a lot of their spare time hopping around to Polka groups like "Lefty and the Coal Miners ". ( This is of course tongue and cheek even if some of it is true )

That was cute.. Actually it is STANKY and the coal miners.. They are out of SCRANTON PA.. He is one of my favorites.. He plays a lot oh HONKY music

Stanky?? Your probably right Frank, but i could of swore there was a group called Lefty and the coal Miners also. P.S. what the hell is " Honky music " and whats the relation between that and Polka's ...LOL

In most of the former USSR, there is a terrible generation gap between parents, who were educated and lived under the Soviet system, and their children, who are growing up today. Especially since perestroika with problems in crime, drugs, etc., the parents can't think what on earth is wrong with the kids, and the kids can't understand why the parents won't "lighten up", to borrow the American term... (about 90% of Russian TV is imported from America, anyway).

Honky style polka music is very much like the Polish that I speak.. It is hard for me to describe,, Actually itr is polka music played to a crude sorta beat..More like music from the other side of the tracks.. I love it..It has a fast beat..It is a wonderful sight to see two really good dancers doing the Polka hop to it.

My parents received a little book with various songs from a friend who owns a printing house.
This book (or rather a booklet) is called "&#346;piewnik Kresowy"
